The program explores the multifaceted nature of contemporary environmental and planning issues through a multi-disciplinary approach. You will learn how to solve many contemporary problems confronting urban, regional and rural environments. The program is designed for those motivated by a desire to improve their environment and/or move into a more exciting and challenging career.The program has two main fields of study: environment and planning. You may choose to specialise in one or both fields:The planning field of study examines new statutory planning techniques, planning and environmental law, strategic planning, sustainable city planning, planning history and theory, public policy development, rural and regional planning, and current planning issues.The environment field of study examines natural resource policy and management, the concept of sustainability, globalisation, environmental policy at international, national, state and local levels, environmental management in industry, environmental effects statements, energy management, parks policy and management, water policy, and business-related environmental issues.

The Graduate Diploma in Statistics and Operations Research program aims to provide opportunities to further your understanding in the modelling of physical, biological and economic phenomena so that you will be able to contribute to development in industry and commerce.The program furthers your knowledge of statistical and operations research methodologies and provides a theoretical foundation combined with practical applications of current techniques employed by practising engineers, scientists and other professionals in industry, research, consulting, teaching and business. The GD108 Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood) offers you a qualification allowing you to work in a diverse range of early childhood contexts with children from birth to eight years both locally and internationally. These include early learning centres in schools, kindergartens, childcare centres, industry and government sectors. It prepares you for the dynamic and challenging world of education. It provides you with globally transferable skills and a qualification as a professional teacher in Australia and overseas.You will experience a variety of contemporary, interactive learning and teaching approaches, including both face to face and online delivery modes. An individually negotiated professional experience project will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge, as well as connect theory and practice. You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of innovative Professional Experience practices in a variety of educational settings that integrate theory and practice. You will critically engage with early childhood theories and practices and be conversant in the key concepts underpinning the constantly evolving early childhood trends, with a focus on collaborative practice.On completion of the program you will be a professional practitioner in the field of education possessing a broad knowledge of learning, teaching, curriculum and assessment. From 2014 onwards the Graduate Diploma in Laboratory Medicine is an exit-only program. All Students need to enrol in the Master of Laboratory Medicine.The Graduate Diploma in Laboratory Medicine (exit-only program) provides advanced training and education in one of the major disciplines of laboratory medicine. It is offered for graduates from general science/biomedical science degrees that have a biological science focus and limited or no experience in diagnostic laboratory disciplines.The program is delivered in face to face mode and requires on campus attendance.It is designed for graduates of general science or biomedical science degree programs who are interested in a career in diagnostic pathology or medical research but who lack experience, or have only limited experience, in the diagnostic laboratory disciplines.A capstone experience in this program is MEDS2154 Advanced Laboratory Medicine. This experience will consolidate and expand the knowledge gained throughout the program.

GD101 is an exit only award from MC111 Master of Biotechnology.As a graduate of this program, you may be able to move into advanced areas of the Biotechnology industry, equipped with advanced skills in gene and protein technologies, bioinformatics, and in various microbiology and food science disciplines. The theoretical component of the program is complemented by a large component of "hands - on" laboratory practicals. Such skills are in high demand in the diverse biotechnology sector.Year one focuses on the development of core skills and knowledge, and allows you to specialise by selecting courses of interest relevant to your chosen stream. Procedures and protocols, as well as oral, written and visual language specific to the study and practice of science are also reviewed. The Graduate Diploma in Property has been designed to develop the specialised knowledge and skills required to practice as a property advisor or manager. The program aims to develop your advanced knowledge of these interrelated fields including though analysing property data and information from diverse sources, thinking critically, conducting research, and through your knowledge and application of investment and valuation techniques and your critical engagement with the legal and regulatory frameworks which govern the property sector. You will also develop the analytical and technical skills required to utilise theoretical knowledge and published data to inform your decision making as a property professional.Graduates may pursue many professional pathways, including work in corporate real estate. property management or development. A flexible program structure and combination of face-to-face and online delivery modes is designed to suit working professionals. This program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and will build your capability to effectively respond to current and emerging issues, trends, and to client and organisational needs across the property sector. In conjunction with the MC212 Master of Property, this program addresses the industry need for property specialists with a particular focus on corporate real estate, development and management.The program replicates industry and professional practice contexts and equips you to work both independently and collaboratively, including through your critical engagement in case study analyses and simulated project work. Successful completion of this program provides a pathway to further learning into MC212 Master of Property. Upon successful completion of this program you may also be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University.

The Graduate Diploma in Journalism is an intensive learning program that offers a blend of practical and reflective elements designed to give you a professionally well-rounded preparation for the competitive multi- media journalism industry.The program’s overall objective is for you to develop the practical, intellectual and analytical skills necessary to work in any field of journalism. While you are acquiring vocational skills, including researching, gathering and producing / presenting news for all platforms, you will also learn how to contextualise your practice in relation to the role of journalism and journalists in society and to analyse media environments. You will also learn to apply the ethics and regulations that guide the profession, from deadline-driven decision making to the ethical challenges of research-based projects.Learning activities and experiences in this program include field trips to media outlets and organisations such as courts, and you will undertake at least one work placement. You will learn the skills of news gathering, writing and reporting for all platforms and be involved in radio and television news broadcasts. All courses in this program are delivered face to face so require on-campus attendance.In your final semester, your capstone experience will be an internship where you will gain practical experience in a professional newsroom or workplace. This will enable you to synthesise and integrate your knowledge, connect theory and practice, and demonstrate your achievement of the program learning outcomes.On completion of the program you will be able to work independently or collaboratively in any journalistic platform or field, such as print, radio, television and/or digital and know how to apply the acquired skills in a modern multi-platform newsroom, either nationally or internationally.Graduates of this program are working as editors, sub-editors, reporters, writers, presenters and producers nationally and internationally in mainstream media outlets, including newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online; niche and specialist media; and digital media, including startups.
