Bachelor of Music (Honours)

Students who perform well, with a GPA of 5.0 or greater, during the Bachelor of Music degree may undertake a further year of full time (or equivalent part time) study to obtain an Honours degree. As a research degree student you will be able to study almost any aspect of music using a research framework subject to the approval of the Program Convenor. The project can be structured as a dissertation or as a creative work and exegesis.

Bachelor of Laws (pre 2014)

The Bachelor of Laws degree is offered as a three year full-time graduate program or as a five year full-time program offered in combination with other degree programs: Bachelor of Aboriginal Professional Practice, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Communication, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Social Science. The Bachelor of Laws degree meets the academic requirements needed to gain admission to the practice of law in New South Wales. As well as providing the academic basis for admission to legal practice, law is now regarded as a useful general education, fostering understanding of how society functions, and developing skills of analytical and logical reasoning.During the first three years, combined degree students enrol in the courses offered by the Faculty of Business and Law as part of the Bachelor of Laws (LLB program), as well as courses within other Faculties to complete one of the seven degrees taken in combination with the LLB. During the final two years they enrol in LAWS courses only. For information about the non-Law degrees and patterns of study for the combined degrees, refer to the relevant program entries.Students who already hold a Bachelor's degree undertake the graduate LLB program over three years full-time study.

Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is currently available in Accounting or Finance or Economics. Potential Honours students should consult with the Newcastle Business School towards the end of the semester prior to that in which they intend to enrol.

Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Laws (pre 2014)

Within this combined degree program, students study a combination of Arts and Law courses over a period of five years full-time. On completion of the first three years students will have completed all the courses required for the Bachelor of Arts degree. In the final two years of the combined degree program students complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Laws and may enrol in these two years on a less than full time basis.Students completing this combined degree meet the requirements to practise law in NSW, and acquire skills and knowledge through the Arts studies they have chosen. You can major or minor in the following Arts areas (C - Callaghan campus, O - Ourimbah campus): - Aboriginal Studies (C) - Ancient History and Classical Languages (C) - Chinese (C)(Minor only. The Chinese major is available to pre-2012 continuing students only.) - Creative and Performing Arts (C, O) - English and Writing (C, O) - Film, Media and Cultural Studies (C, Flexible Delivery) - French Studies (C) - German (C) - History (C, O) - Human Geography and the Environment (C) - Japanese Studies (C) - Linguistics (C) - Philosophy and Religion (C) - Politics and International Relations (C, O) - Psychology Studies (C, O) - Sociology and Anthropology (C, O).Students wishing to practise law must also complete postgraduate professional training approved by the Legal Profession Admission Board. Alternatively, students completing this degree may apply for entry to the Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Legal Practice Program - see separate handbook entry - which allows immediate admission to legal practice on graduation.Commencement in this program is only available in Semester 1. Due to timetabling issues this program is not available for a Semester 2 commencement.

Bachelor of Social Science (Honours)

Students who perform well, with a GPA of 5.0 or greater, during the Bachelor of Social Science program or equivalent program and/or relevant discipline major, may undertake a further year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study to obtain an Honours degree. The Honours program allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest.The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) approved sequence in Psychology is no longer available in this program. If you have a 3 year APAC accredited psychology qualification please apply for the accredited Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) program.

Bachelor of Music (pre 2017)

This program is only available for currently enrolled students. No new applications for admission will be accepted. Students wishing to study a Bachelor of Music should refer to the new Bachelor of Music (Program No. 40045).If you have been studying or learning a musical instrument, composing, producing or creating music, then studying music at university level is an excellent way to continue your studies and prepare you for a career as a professional musician, composer, music maker, or in a music related field.

Bachelor of Science (Honours)

The program can be completed over one year of full-time study or part-time equivalent. Courses are offered on a semester basis, i.e. two semesters per year. The Bachelor of Science (Honours) is offered at Callaghan and Ourimbah Campuses.Please note that specialisations are not available at both campuses.The specialisations of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth Science, Geography and Environmental Studies, and Physics are available to students at the Callaghan campus.The Marine Science and Sustainable Resource Management specialisations are available at the Ourimbah campus only.The Psychology specialisation is available at both the Callaghan and Ourimbah campuses.The Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) approved sequence in Psychology is no longer available in this program. Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Transfer Program) (pre 2017)

Students wishing to study a Bachelor of Commerce should refer to the new Bachelor of Commerce (Program No. 40029).The Bachelor of Commerce is your first step to becoming a fully qualified accountant or undertaking careers in finance and economics. You'll be exposed to industry-relevant areas of study including the opportunity to specialise in one of three major sequences: Accounting, Economics, Finance. As accountancy and financial management are at the very heart of all organisations, you'll find commerce is a field offering enormous scope and opportunity.

Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science (pre 2019)

This combined degree program allows students to study in the area of arts as well as science and complete two awards over four years of full-time study or the part-time equivalent.In general, a combined degree program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree. At the same time, it recognises the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills.The APAC (Australian Psychology Accreditation Council) accredited major sequence is not available to students who commence the program in 2012 or after. A Psychology major is available in the program, however it is not accredited for students commencing study in 2012 onwards. Students who commence the program in 2012 or after, and who wish to complete an accredited psychology program, are advised to apply for admission to the Bachelor of Psychological Science program.
