BH-LAWS v.1 Bachelor of Laws (Honours)

Bachelor honours degrees prepare students to develop broad, coherent and advanced knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications. A Bachelor Honours Degree – which is located at level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework – teaches advanced legal research and writing skills and enables Honours graduates to apply a specialised body of knowledge in a specific context. In addition to coursework, it requires the production of a 12,000 word dissertation. The degree provides further opportunities for law graduates in professional fields and can be a pathway towards continuing post-graduate study. The undergraduate Bachelor of Laws degree is the qualification offered by Curtin Law School that meets the academic requirements for admission to legal practice. Bachelor of Laws’ graduates who meet the eligibility requirements may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree. Our Bachelor of Laws (Honours) programme significantly enhances students’ already developed legal skills so that they can conduct sophisticated legal research to solve complex legal problems and contribute to the body of legal knowledge Students who successfully complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree will be awarded First Class, Upper Second Class, Lower Second Class, or Third Class Honours. Career Opportunities Law graduates who have graduated with Honours, particularly First Class Honours, are generally better regarded and are more highly sought after by employers than law graduates without Honours. Some employers in the legal profession specifically advertise for law graduates with Honours and are known for recruiting mostly those who satisfy that criterion. Law Honours graduates should have improved career opportunities with top tier legal firms, in government departments and agencies, and with courts and tribunals. Honours can be also a pathway to further learning in a Master of Laws (LLM) program or post-graduate research degrees such as a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). BH-INDAUS v.2 Bachelor of Applied Science (Indigenous Australian Research) (Honours)

This honours course provides an opportunity for suitably qualified graduate students to undertake a dissertation-based program in the field of Indigenous Australian research. The course focuses on Indigenous knowledge and research methodologies and emphasises multidisciplinary approaches to analyse topics of relevance to Indigenous people. BH-HLTHSC v.1 Bachelor of Science (Health Sciences) (Honours)

Bachelor honours degrees prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications. This course develops originality and independence of thought and trains students in research. It is a path for students proceeding to a higher degree. Additionally, this course broadens knowledge and provides exposure to the latest developments in health related research, thereby enhancing employment prospects. The BSc (Health Sciences) (Honours) program enables students to build on the knowledge obtained in their undergraduate degree and focus on one of the following areas of study: health promotion, food science, nutrition, health safety and environment, epidemiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, strength and conditioning, motor control and learning. As well as studying units in a chosen discipline, students will examine academic research methodology and enhance their analytical skills. Students will also complete a supervised research project and present findings as an honours dissertation. BH-ENGR v.1 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

Bachelor honours degrees prepare students to develop broad, coherent and advanced knowledge and skills in a discipline for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications. Students undertake the Bachelor of Engineering Pre-Major in their first year and on successful completion proceed in their second year to one of the following Engineering disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Civil and Construction Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering or Environmental Engineering. Environmental Engineering major will only be available at Curtin Sarawak. Students are not required to choose a discipline at the start of the degree but must make this decision either prior to or at the completion of the Bachelor of Engineering Pre-Major. Course Accreditation The Bachelor of Engineering has been accorded full recognition by Engineers Australia exempting graduates from all academic requirements for corporate membership. To qualify for corporate membership of Engineers Australia a graduate also requires a minimum of four years approved experience following the award of the Bachelor of Engineering degree. BH-COMM v.1 Bachelor of Commerce (Honours)

Bachelor Honours Degrees prepare students to develop advanced knowledge and skills for professional work, research and further learning corresponding to AQF level 8 qualifications. This course enables graduates to enter directly into professional roles in commerce. This course also provides high calibre students with the opportunity for a possible direct entry into master and PhD programs. This honours level course offers students with an interest in studying science the opportunity to develop high level skills and attributes beyond discipline knowledge through a core of scientific professional practice, leadership and entrepreneurship. Students select from a range of discipline areas including Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Coastal and Marine Science, Computing, Data Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Financial Mathematics, Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Molecular Genetics and Physics. Students will have the flexibility to tailor their experiences through this core in a way that works for them and their personal interests and aspirations. In the capstone experience students will have the opportunity to pursue projects from pure research through to translational (entrepreneurial) science projects. Career Opportunities Students graduating with an honours degree in science can pursue careers in research through postgraduate degrees (Master by Research, PhD) but are also high competitive in industry. Graduates from the Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) have the added advantage of being able to evidence the development of high level discipline, leadership and entrepreneurship skills through engagement with industry and research groups throughout their course.
