Psychology and Marketing are a natural combination, reflecting the day-to-day challenges of the business world and the growing role of psychology in numerous aspects of commerce. Completion of this course prepares graduates for careers in both professions, and opens possibilities for employment in various business contexts. Professional Recognition Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Marketing Institute. The Bachelor of Science (Psychology) degree is recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as meeting the first three years of study in psychology. A further year in psychology is necessary to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) or to apply for post graduate training (pathway to registration) in psychology. In Australia two years of further training is required for full registration as a psychologist; the completion of a two-year masters program, or a one-year professional masters and one year of supervised psychological practice. This double degree is designed to provide a basis in and appreciation of the scientific discipline of psychology as well as the human resource management and industrial relations professions. This combination provides graduates with a highly marketable knowledge base that allows them to relate to a broad range of managers, professionals and consultants, and also provides a foundation for graduate studies in either professional application or research. Course Accreditation The BSc (Psychology) is recognised by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) as meeting the first three years of study in psychology. The B.Com allows graduates to apply for membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute. Professional Recognition Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute. A fourth year in psychology is necessary to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and for provisional registration as a psychologist. This double degree concurrently develops expertise in the areas of nutrition and health promotion. With increasing emphasis being placed on preventing disease using sound nutrition, this combination of skills is ideal for positions where health promotion skills are frequently required and are considered highly desirable, such as government health departments and other agencies involved with the prevention of chronic disease. It is particularly relevant for jobs in government health departments and in community agencies involved with health related areas such as alcohol and other drugs, injury control, disease control, heart disease prevention, cancer control, road safety, research, sponsorship and community development and capacity building. Course Accreditation This course is accredited by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education.
