Bachelor of Medical Sonography/Graduate Diploma of Medical Sonography

The Medical Sonography course will enable you to apply sonographic knowledge and practical scanning skills in the diagnostic imaging setting. You will develop a high level of skill and proficiency in performing sonographic studies and evaluate findings so you can tailor your scans to the individual patient in a safe, caring and effective manner. You will also develop effective communication skills enabling you to interact positively with patients and other health professionals in the clinical work environment. Your clinical decision-making and problem solving skills will be promoted through the use of simulation based learning techniques and exposure to 'real world' conditions while on clinical practice. As a graduate, you can apply to register as 'General Sonographers' with the Australian Sonographer Accreditation Registry.

Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences aims to produce scholarly and autonomous graduates who are reflective professionals, ready for work, and possess the ability to take responsibility for their personal and professional development. The course comprises of 24 units in total and as a student, you will complete 18 core units plus 6 additional units in one of the three minors (Biomedical Sciences, Sport Management, or Secondary Education minor). Through the Exercise and Sport Sciences course you will gain in-depth knowledge of the processes and mechanisms of the human body, and sound practical skills in the various disciplines relevant to exercise and sport sciences such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise and sport psychology, motor control and learning, and exercise prescription and delivery. You will also be given opportunities to apply your knowledge and skills through laboratory activities, research projects, and work integrated learning experiences that are offered throughout the course. The knowledge and skills you gain through the Exercise and Sport Sciences course will enable you to practice competently and effectively within the field of exercise and sports science. These attributes will also see you well-placed to undertake further studies at an Honours or Postgraduate level.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) course allows you the opportunity to continue undergraduate studies at a higher level by pursuing an independent research project in an area of interest. Projects are completed under the supervision of an academic member of staff and provide you with an opportunity to develop new skills, generate new information and/or distil new ideas out of existing knowledge, whilst specialising in your chosen field.

The Bachelor of Human Services will provide you with an understanding of the political, social, cultural environment and skills and knowledge for people working in the human services. The course will provide a wide range of knowledge and skills including psychology, sociology, contemporary issues and knowledge of working with Aboriginal and Islander people. Skills will be gained in working with people either individually or as part of a family or other group. You will have the opportunity within a human service agency to practice skills and demonstrate an understanding of professional practice. This course aims to equip you to work with both Indigenous and non-indigenous people within community and human service work.

Bachelor of Theatre (Specialisation)

The Bachelor of Theatre (Specialisation) is designed to provide specialist training in music theatre, drama, technical theatre and theatre studies (distance option). If you are studying the music theatre, drama or technical theatre specialisations on campus, you will be involved in a comprehensive conservatoire style environment with expectations of high standards of performance and scholarship. A rigorous performance schedule in various University, community and professional settings is one of the strengths of this course. If you are studying the theatre studies specialisation by distance, you will have the opportunity to build your understanding of theatre as part of the broader community through studies that include creative writing and the investigation of the practice of theatre in historical and contemporary contexts. A range of adjunct units and electives allows students the opportunity to pursue additional studies in music, or add other allied skills and knowledge in areas of professional and personal interest such as other creative arts and arts administration, events management, education, business, multimedia design and professional communication to their study course.

The Bachelor of Music (Specialisation) is designed to provide you with specialist training in jazz and popular music, performance, contemporary music as well as music studies. If you are studying the jazz and popular music, performance or contemporary music specialisations on campus, you will be involved in a comprehensive conservatoire style environment with expectations of high standards of performance, musicianship and scholarship. A rigorous performance schedule in various university, community and professional settings is one of the strengths of this course, as is the development of individual skill in a supportive, collaborative environment. If you are studying the performance specialisation by distance you will have the opportunity to develop your solo music performance skills with highly specialised music staff via video technology or on campus, depending on your location. If you are studying the music studies specialisation by distance, you will have the opportunity to build your understanding of music as part of the broader community through studies that include music theory, composition and arranging and the investigation of the practice of music in historical and contemporary contexts. A range of adjunct units and electives allows you to pursue additional studies in music, or add other allied skills and knowledge in areas of professional and personal interest such as other creative arts and arts administration, events management, education, digital media, business and professional communication.

Bachelor of Engineering Technology

As a Bachelor of Engineering Technology student, you will develop and demonstrate technical engineering knowledge and skills in civil engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering, integrating problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. This CQUniversity engineering course incorporates Project Based Learning, providing you the opportunity to learn in context, in formal and informal learning environments such as workshops, classes and project studios. Teamwork and problem solving skills are learned alongside technical content in exciting real-world engineering contexts. The course consists of a common first level after which students select their major in either civil engineering (structural or municipal transportation), electrical engineering (electrical control or electrical power) or mechanical engineering (design, energy or process). This course is available in distance mode, allowing students the flexibility to study if they are in a remote location or if they are working and cannot attend face-to-face classes. Distance students will attend residential schools associated with some units in the course in order to develop practical skills and to network with staff and students in the course. They will also interact with staff and students via online unit websites. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology may also be used as an alternative entry pathway into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). Bachelor of Engineering Technology students study many of the same units as Bachelor of Engineering students but in a narrower discipline area.

You may be employed in the areas of: employee relations, reputation and crisis management, journalism, content management, event management, communication strategy, and product development, as examples. Professional communicators work in community, non-profit, government and corporate sectors. In this course, you will learn to communicate effectively within an organisational environment. In core units, you will learn to write for media and corporate genres, create design-based product, and analyse, research and evaluate information. You can choose to specialise in journalism, digital media production, marketing, management, human resource management, or social enquiry as study areas. You will work on real-world scenarios and with real clients throughout your course.

Bachelor of Science (Psychology)

The aim of this course is to give you a comprehensive overview of the scientific discipline of psychology and its applications. The course is delivered in accordance with the foundational (level one) competencies for three-year undergraduate psychology programs as specified by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). You will acquire an understanding of the underlying principles, theories and concepts within the discipline. In addition, you will develop knowledge of the range of core research areas that make up the discipline, and an understanding of the methodologies and statistical techniques used by researchers for information gathering and analysis. There will be opportunities for you to explore applied and professional uses of psychology. In addition, you will be introduced to psychological theory, research, and applied and professional uses of psychology in an ethical and culturally responsive context. Upon completion of this course, you will have a highly marketable qualification. This course is universally acknowledged as an indication of competence and achievement in understanding human thought and behaviour that can be applied in a variety of people-oriented vocations. Graduating with this qualification, however, will not allow you to call yourself a 'psychologist'. This requires further study involving an honours course (4th year of study) and then an accredited Psychology Board of Australia pathway. Successful completion of an accredited three-year psychology sequence of study will mean you are eligible to apply for a competitive entry position in the 4th year of study through our honours course (CC42). Honours level study will prepare you for either the coursework necessary for conditional registration as a psychologist in Australia and/or research higher degree studies in psychology. Note: This course is designed for those with an existing bachelor degree and want to obtain an accredited three-year psychology sequence. If you do not have an existing degree, you will need to enrol in the Bachelor of Psychological Science (CC43).

Graduates find employment in a wide range of property related occupations including property valuation, property management, asset management, facility management property development and property economics consulting. The Major in Financial Planning fulfills the educational requirements for professional practice as a Financial Planner. Graduates of the Bachelor of Property (Financial Planning) may pursue careers in Financial Planning, Estate and Succession Planning, Property Investment Advice, and those areas of Financial Planning which require detailed understanding of property investment such as Estate and Succession Planning.
