Bachelor of Primary Education

The four-year Bachelor of Primary Education is a rigorous course which will prepare you to teach national literacy and numeracy at a primary school level, from Kindergarten to Year 6. You’ll develop a sound understanding of the educational theories and teaching skills required in today’s classrooms, largely by regularly observing them in a primary school environment and putting your academic learnings into practice during one of the many teaching placement opportunities you’ll undertake.The course’s Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) units across years two, three and four are taught on-site in schools, providing you with regular occasions to interact with children of all primary school age ranges. You’ll become proficient in teaching subjects including English, maths, science, health and PE, humanities and social sciences, and technologies, and will graduate confident, motivated and classroom-ready, eager to make an inspirational difference to the lives of children aged 5 to 12.A teaching degree, by its very nature, is the embodiment of Work Integrated Learning (WIL), with its focus on compulsory professional teaching practice. During this course, you’ll undertake a minimum of 80 days of practical placement across a range of different primary school levels and settings, culminating in a 30-day teaching placement in your final year.In addition to this, the course content is developed by primary education professionals, and kept relevant and up-to-date through consistent monitoring of, and engagement with, the industry. You’ll undertake authentic assessment tasks which are highly relevant to the day-to-day practice of teaching, and will take part in regular professional development activities, field trips to educational sites, lectures hosted by guest speakers from a range of education and teaching backgrounds, and more.This course is registered by the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI) and recognised as a teaching qualification throughout Australia.On graduating, students must register with the appropriate state teaching body in order to teach.Students must obtain a Working with Vulnerable People Check before their first placement.

Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging)

If your career goal is to become a qualified diagnostic radiographer, but you’re also looking for a competitive edge, then this course will give you the skills, knowledge, and experience to confidently apply for employment both in Australia and overseas – six months ahead of other diagnostic radiographer courses.This course offers an accelerated four-year degree which completes all training in only 3.5 years allowing you enter the job market earlier and giving UC graduates a definite competitive advantage when it comes to looking for future employment opportunities.Packed with Work Integrated Learning (WIL) choices, this unique course can include an embedded honours program, allowing you to study the bachelor’s degree on its own for three and a half years, or undertake a research project in your third and fourth year to graduate with Honours.Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible for registration from the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA) to practice as a Diagnostic Radiographer and can explore career opportunities in general radiography, angiography, mammography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and medical ultrasound.WIL is a key part of the Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) program and has been created to give students valuable hands-on experience using a broad range of x-ray units within a simulated and controlled lab environment.This approach builds confidence and has been created to ensure that all UC students are familiar and experience with real-world technology by the time they reach their first clinical placements.Students will also participate in a variety of placements throughout the course including two five-week clinical placements during the second and third years of your studies and have the chance to take part in longer residences too.Each placement can occur across several different local and/or national healthcare settings, including regional, rural, large teaching hospitals and private practice placements.A Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) is a globally recognised and respected qualification that will enable to pursue a career in any of the following positions.To gain accreditation in this field*, further postgraduate study is necessary.The Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (Medical Imaging) is an approved program of study by the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA), and graduates are eligible to apply for registration to practice in Australia as a Diagnostic Radiographer.Assumed knowledge for entry is the HSC equivalent of Biology, Physics, and Mathematics.There are non-standard English language requirements for this course. To be eligible, you must have an academic IELTS of 7.0 overall, or equivalent, with no band score below 7.0.Before undertaking any clinical practice or clinical laboratory experience, you must:• provide your immunisation history • apply for a National Police Check • have qualifications in first aid/CPR.Eligible students who wish to complete the degree’s embedded Honours option must attain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 5.5 in the first two years of the course and obtain approval stating that their supervisor has availability to oversee the project.Graduating students will be able to gain registration to practice as a diagnostic radiographer, as well as being able to apply for a Statement of Compliance with the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASIMRT) and eligible for membership.

Bachelor of Games and Interactive Design

Bachelor of Games and Interactive Design In this degree students will gain experience in the design and creation of games and interactive digital media. This will include the theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to work in either a technical or creative role. Students will develop an understanding of the game design and production process from concept development and idea generation through to the production methodologies that are applied in today?s leading game studios. Students will gain a thorough understanding of games and interactive design developing skills in areas such as game design, game art, and computer programming. This will include key concepts such as game mechanics, artificial intelligence, 3D graphics, animation and real-time technology. These areas of expertise will be enhanced by exposure to essential knowledge required to participate and engage with the games and interactive design industry. This will include areas such as teamwork, problem-solving strategies and contemporary production methodologies. Learning will be achieved through activities such as creating interactive works, engaging with the games industry and its members, reviewing both historical and contemporary creative work and literature. All students that complete the qualification will be given the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge to the development of creative works. (You will make games!) The games and interactive design industry is growing rapidly in both local and international markets with revenue in the billions of dollars. Bachelor of Contemporary Music Practice

It covers music composition, performance, and theory, with embedded analytical studies of historical, cultural and technological applications in commercial contexts. The Bachelor of Applied Fashion offers students a unique opportunity to study fashion. The course aims to initially develop student's key skillsets covering research, design, manufacturing and pattern cutting, which will underpin and inform a personal design philosophy and the chosen area of specialism. As students learn to excel in design, they are encouraged to venture outside the immediate discipline of fashion design and visual media to assess the needs of the ever-changing global economy to provide design solutions for the future. The course engages with many market levels, from couture to high street, through a range of projects, many of which are in sponsored by specific labels or companies. The course encourages and supports students to find relative work placements, which enable them to experience the reality of working within the industry or a particular company, together with the opportunity to build useful networks for a future career. This wider involvement with the fashion industry and society is invaluable to their development as a designer. The course strives to create professionals who aspire to be reflective practitioners and possess the confidence and skills to productively contribute to the future development of fashion.

Bachelor of Acting and Performance

Develop the practical skills and experience required to work in the performing arts as a stage and film actor, performing artist, performance maker, or arts facilitator. You'll benefit from our extended community of practice which includes ongoing relationships with schools, industry and student alumni. Drama and production major (Option 1 - Open Entry) The drama and production major will provide you the learning and experience to initiate and produce creative performances, projects and events. Graduates will be able to engage as arts facilitators, educators, producers and project managers in creating, leading and facilitating projects for positive social change and real-world impact. Graduates will work across a variety of media and collaborate with performance makers, educational institutions and organisations, using the arts to activate and empower communities. The program is also suitable for emerging and established performing artists who want to continue exploring their independent practices, engaging in performance theory, professional practice and entrepreneurial skills. A range of elective units is on offer to expand the student's skills base and knowledge including study in Music, Visual Arts, Gaming, Fashion and Digital Design. Advanced acting major (Option 2 - Audition Required) The advanced acting major focuses on the craft and art of acting and performance. The course offers: lively, detailed and focused training in acting, voice and body skills; regular performance opportunities (https://tafeqld.eventsair.com/acting/) to play to live audiences; and intense development of the acting student's creative voice as an independent performance maker. Plays, readings, online resources and academic materials are designed to inspire, challenge and motivate the training actor. Students are expected to develop as actors and performers who think for themselves, respect their own ideas and ideals, and use theatre and film as a means to share their vision. Students are encouraged to understand and explore their place as performers in a contemporary world.

In the past UC Arts and Design students have connected with industry via organisations including Calvary Hospital, Guide Dogs Australia, the AIS and the National Museum of Australia.This course is open to students who have completed a degree in the Faculty of Arts and Design with a grade point average of 5.0 or higher, or students from a three-year degree in a related discipline with a relevant major, in which they received a grade point average of 5.0 or higher.

This course has a particularly strong link between professional placements and employment, with many interns securing future roles even before graduation.High performing students may be eligible for enrolment in the Bachelor of Sport Studies (Honours), or if you’d prefer to progress to postgraduate study, you could undertake the Master of Sport and Exercise Science (Research) or one of many other related master’s programs in the Faculty of Health.WIL is an integral part of this course, giving you an invaluable opportunity to gain practical experience and form strong relationships within industry before graduating.
