Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science with Honours

Due to the circumstances around COVID-19, you will begin your studies online. However, when Government guidelines change, on-campus studies will be reintroduced.The Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science with Honours provides students with advanced knowledge and scientific training in a specialised area of marine and / or Antarctic science; training in research as preparation for employment in a research organisation or for postgraduate study in Masters or PhD programs; and equips students with knowledge, skills, competencies and awareness in preparation for employment in industry.The degree is fully equivalent to an honours degree with any other University School and satisfies the usual eligibility requirements for research higher degrees and postgraduate scholarships. The program can be taken in one year full-time or two years part-time study. Students can commence the program in either semester 1 or semester 2.

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Professional Honours in Environmental Management) is designed for those with a 3-year Bachelor degree to undertake honours-level studies in environmental management. It is appropriate for students wishing to add an environmental focus to an undergraduate degree from any discipline, or those wishing to further develop knowledge and skills in environmental management.The course provides a broad, interdisciplinary approach to environmental management, and articulates to the Master of Applied Science (Environmental Management and Spatial Science) and also the Master of Protected Area Governance and Management. This course will allow you to expand your knowledge of natural and cultural values and the social, cultural and institutional contexts in which environments are managed. You will learn some practical approaches to managing ecosystems that include the methods used to address issues associated with biodiversity conservation and sustainability.Field-based activities are important parts of the course that allow you to integrate knowledge and apply it in practice. Examples of field-based learning include bushfire work in the University Reserve, management planning for the Three Capes Track (southern Tasmania), and studies of the role of urban greening in your local urban area.We focus on real world case studies to explore the issues and solutions experienced by industry. Our links with potential employers, such as local councils, consultants and state government can provide you with connections to start you on your career path. You have the option to do a placement with a government, private sector or community-based organisation, which provides valuable skills you would need for a career in the environmental management sector.

Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science with Honours (Specialisation)

The Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science with Honours (Specialisation) is a four-year program with embedded Honours.Note: this degree is part of a 2+2 agreement for international students. Domestic students should look at the Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Studies (P3L).The initial specialisation to be offered is Physical Oceanography. It will provide students with training in advanced physical oceanography and mathematics, as well as training in scientific research principles and techniques such that graduates have the capacity to conduct physical oceanography research appropriately and with a reasonable degree of autonomy.
