The Bachelor of Law and Society requires three years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.A Law Pathway is available in the Bachelor of Law and Society. The Law Pathway has different admission requirements to the standard Bachelor of Law and Society. In order to undertake the Law Pathway commencing students must apply for admission into the Pathway through SATAC.Students cannot transfer into the one-year Law Pathway from the standard Bachelor of Law and Society. Students wishing to continue to Honours may do so in Law and Society, provided they meet the admission requirements.

Law and Society (Law Pathway)

The Law Pathway is offered as part of the Bachelor of Law and Society and requires one year of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The Law Pathway is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law. Upon successful completion of the one year Law Pathway, students will transfer to one of the courses listed under the Program of Study below.The Law Pathway has different admission requirements to the Bachelor of Law and Society. In order to undertake the Law Pathway commencing students must apply for admission to the Law Pathway through SATAC.Admission requirementsThe minimum requirements for consideration for entry to all undergraduate courses are specified in detail in the University Entry Requirements.Students who have completed tertiary study which included any of the pathway topics in Criminology, Justice and Society, Law or Legal Studies or equivalent would normally be required to have achieved a grade of credit or better in those topics to be considered for entry.Program of StudyAfter successful completion of the one year Law Pathway, students will transfer to one of the following courses:

The graduate entry Bachelor of Letters is a 108-unit program for which 72 units of block credit is automatically granted on the basis of completion of a prior bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification. It normally requires one year of full-time study, or part-time equivalent. The language specialisations require part-time study over three years or six consecutive semesters. The Creative Writing specialisation requires part-time study over a minimum of two years or four semesters. The Criminology specialisation requires part-time study over a minimum of one and a half years or three semesters.The Bachelor of Letters enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking another area of study.Students can choose one of the following specialisations:

The Bachelor of Letters is a 108-unit program that must be studied concurrently with another Bachelor degree at an approved Australian higher education institution, for which 72 units of block credit will be awarded on completion of the requirements of the other degree. The Bachelor of Letters is normally undertaken part-time over three years to allow concurrent study with the other Bachelor degree, thus adding one extra year to the overall study program. The language specialisations must be undertaken part-time over three years or six consecutive semesters.The Bachelor of Letters enables students to follow their interests and aspirations and enhance their career prospects by undertaking another area of study.Students can choose one of the following specialisations :

The Bachelor of Laws may be taken as a graduate-entry program in a minimum of three years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.Students who complete this award cannot be admitted to Legal Practice without completing further practical training.

The Bachelor of Laws requires three-and-a-half years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). Students who are enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice or a Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice (Graduate Entry) and who do not wish to undertake the Legal Practice component may be eligible to transfer to the Bachelor of Laws. The course is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.Students who complete this award cannot be admitted to Legal Practice without completing further practical training.

The Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice may be taken as a first degree in a minimum of four years full-time (or the equivalent part-time) or as a graduate-entry program in a minimum of three-and-a-half years full-time (or the equivalent part-time). The course is offered by the College of Business, Government and Law.Students who do not wish to undertake the Practical Legal Training component may be eligible to transfer to the Bachelor of Laws and complete in three-and-a-half years of full-time study (or the equivalent part-time). However, these students cannot be admitted to Legal Practice without completing further practical legal training. Students who choose to transfer to the Bachelor of Laws must complete 94.5 units of compulsory topics and 31.5 units of option topics as listed under Option – Year 3 & 4 topics in the Bachelor of Laws course rule.Part-time students should note that minimum enrolment requirements apply in their first semester of study. Students must undertake both LLAW1311 Introduction to Law and Justice and LLAW1312 Essential Legal Skills.
