MJRU-NETCM v.2 Digital and Social Media Major (BA)

This major provides you with an opportunity to learn in detail about the human dimensions of the Internet: how people network, collaborate, and share information through digital and social media and design. You will develop advanced skills in creating, maintaining and managing online communications for personal and commercial interactions, as well as gaining knowledge of the social and cultural contexts within which those interactions occur. The approach is interdisciplinary: you develop skills in website design, public communication, social network management, collaboration and web media production. At the same time you will understand the political, economic and social changes associated with the Internet. By combining this major with recommended electives in media, design, business, information technology, marketing, and other disciplines, you will create the right degree program for you to become an astute, engaged professional communicator using digital and social media. Course Overview Note Students choosing this major within the Bachelor of Arts degree will also choose another major or an elective stream. Choosing a second major allows students to study in an additional discipline area. The application of science to real world problems continues to evolve and become more complex and truly multi-disciplinary in nature. Nowadays, in many areas of scientific endeavour, no single science discipline is sufficient. This is reflected in multi-disciplinary fields such as astronomy, biochemistry, bioinformatics, environmental science, forensic science, and nanotechnology. The Multidisciplinary Science Major gives students the opportunity to combine rigorous study in more than one science discipline of their choice taken from discipline areas such as biology, chemistry, computing, geology, mathematics or physics. The intention is to provide graduates with the skills to operate across the traditional boundaries of a single scientific discipline. Graduates will also be ideally placed to develop a teaching career across a range of science areas.

MJRU-MRSRT v.1 Radiation Therapy Major (BSc Medical Radiation Science)

Radiation Therapists play an integral role in the treatment, care and management of patients undergoing radiation therapy treatment, primarily in treating a range of cancer types. Graduates must balance a genuine interest in patients and their welfare with the technical requirements necessary to undertake Radiation Therapy procedures. Radiation Therapy increasingly incorporates high end imaging technologies as integral requirements of patient treatment. Career Opportunities Medical Radiation professionals are usually employed in clinical sites including large teaching hospitals, private and country hospitals, and private clinics (metropolitan and rural). Graduates will normally initially practise in more general areas of practice but can progress to more specialised areas of practice with experience, or when opportunities become available within the workplace. Graduates may also pursue more technical careers in medical physics or biophysics, radiation health, or with equipment manufacturers, for example. Career development can also lead to managerial positions. There is also the opportunity to pursue further education including research degrees. Graduates from Curtin have over the years been highly regarded and employment opportunities are readily available in metropolitan, rural and regional areas. There is a strong industry demand, and you will be qualified (once accreditation is gained) to work anywhere in Australia, and in many locations internationally. MJRU-MRSMI v.1 Medical Imaging Major (BSc Medical Radiation Science)

Medical Imaging graduates work with a range of sophisticated diagnostic imaging modalities including Computed and Digital Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Mammography and Angiography equipment. They produce images which are used to confirm or exclude a medical diagnosis, to advise on a treatment or illness, monitor patient progress, or provide medical screening. A genuine interest in managing a wide range of patients and their needs is an important function of the professional. Professional Recognition The BSc(MRS) (Medical imaging Science) is approved by the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia. Further information is available at https://www.medicalradiationpracticeboard.gov.au/ Prospective students should note that, in order to practice as a graduate medical imaging or radiation therapist in Australia, registration with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia is mandated by law. MJRU-MNGSC v.2 Mining Major (BSc Science)

The discipline of Mining Major deals with the application of scientific methods initially to establish the economic viability of mineral deposits, and subsequently plan and develop surface and underground mining operations for safe and economic exploitation of the mineral resources. Mining specialists work with mining engineers in developing and implementing mine plans, as well as conducting safe and efficient mine production operations. Students with sufficient background in mathematics and other sciences, along with strong communication skills pursue a successful career as mining specialists.
