Exercise and Nutrition Sciences

Within the program you will learn about the human body across a broad range of study areas, including the science of exercise, nutrition and food, physical activity and preventative health, and the psychology of sport and exercise. Also, you will learn in world-class facilities, which include the latest industry equipment in specialist biomechanics and motor control, as well as exercise physiology and strength conditioning laboratories. This program is the perfect pathway to many professions upon further study as you will enjoy the freedom of studying within a flexible framework. Clinical or non-clinical career in fields including medicine, dietetics, health rehabilitation, public health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy or speech pathology are all possible.

Science

The Diploma in Science is open to graduates of a Bachelor program in any field of study. It is a flexible program that is ideal for people who need to fulfil prerequisites for entry into another program, for people who are preparing to sit the GAMSAT or for teachers looking for professional development. Students enrolling in the program can choose to either complete a major from the course list or to complete a set of courses without a declared major. Due to the sequential nature of some majors in which some courses require prerequisite knowledge, students may need to complete the Diploma part time over three or four semesters. This program has been revised from 2021. Students who commenced in the program from 2021 should refer to the: Diploma in Science — 2476. Arts

The Diploma in Arts is available to graduates of a Bachelor program in any field of study. Students enrolling in the Diploma are required to complete one major or two minors. It is a flexible program that allows students to complete arts courses in a new area of study in order to gain additional qualifications. Upon completion and subject to satisfactory performance and entry requirements, this program may enable students eligibility for entry into Honours, to postgraduate coursework and, via Honours, entry to research postgraduate study. The Diploma in Arts is a commonwealth supported (HECS-Help) program. Please note that in some cases it will not be possible to complete the requirements for the Diploma in one year of full time study, and part time enrolment may be required. This is because some majors (for example, languages) require sequential study.

International Studies (Honours)

The Bachelor of International Studies (Honours) degree develops core skills and knowledge in theory and research in the cultural and communicative aspects of globalisation and the world system. The program is based on a combination of coursework and a research project in the chosen field of study. Its objective is to produce graduates who will be able to think clearly, flexibly and critically, and be able to weigh up evidence and arguments and make rational choices. Graduates should be able to express themselves effectively, both orally and in writing; be able to work cooperatively in a team; and be able to demonstrate a depth of understanding in one or more fields of knowledge. The Honours Program also prepares students for further study at the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) level.

International Studies

The Bachelor of International Studies is a three-year (or part-time equivalent ) degree program which provides students with an interdisciplinary core of courses which provide grounding in the cultural and communicative aspects of globalisation and the world system. Each student completes a major in a language other than English from the wide range of languages taught at UQ and another major with strong international relevance.

Education (Primary)

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a four year pre-service teacher qualification designed for effective teacher preparation in the unique contemporary context. The program develops capacities required by teachers working in the information age, a time of rapid change where education is recognised as playing an increasingly important role in society. The program develops teachers across prep to year 6, spanning the Early and Middle Phases of Learning. In particular, the program focuses on the development of skills, understandings and attributes that enable graduates to demonstrate specialist abilities with respect to: Literacy and numeracy Diversity and differentiated learning Leadership and research Connected practicum Students are expected to enrol fulltime throughout the duration of their program (ie 8 units per semester). Honours: Students who intend to undertake the Bachelor of Education (Primary) as an Honours program must apply to transfer into the Bachelor of Education (Primary) (Honours) program after successful completion of 3 years full time study in the Bachelor of Education (Primary) program.

Architectural Design

The Bachelor of Architectural Design (BArchDes) is the first stage of obtaining a professional qualification in Architecture. The BArchDes provides the basis on which students can progress to the professional Master of Architecture. Architecture is a dynamic and demanding profession, making a positive contribution to the shaping of our built environment and our culture. The essential skill of an architect is the ability to design buildings and spaces with an inherent concern for human living and working environments.

Nursing/Midwifery

Nursing and midwifery are exciting, diverse and rewarding careers where you can make a true difference in people's lives. This program takes adopts a narrative and inquiry-based approach to learning and integrates lecture-based study with clinical practice in major teaching hospitals. Combining the stand alone Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery degrees, this program provides students with specific knowledge across parallel skill areas.

Communication/Journalism

The program emphasises applied skills relevant to work within communication industries. Journalism is a professional program aimed at preparing graduates for entry into work in journalism and related fields. It develops understanding of journalism and its media and communication contexts; the skills to do journalism, and the reflection necessary to be a journalist.
