About

This major/stream is part of a larger course. Information is specific to the major/stream, please refer to the course for more information.

This course encompasses children from birth - 8 years of age, and units studied will include management and leadership of Early Childhood Education and Care centres, as well as school curriculum and general pedagogical approaches. Professional experience placements will be completed by all students across the full age range of birth-8 years.

Professional Recognition

The course is recognised by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as an approved early childhood teacher qualification.

Course Accreditation Status

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) is recognised by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) as an approved early childhood teacher qualification for the period from 7 March 2017 to March 2022.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course will have the skills, knowledge and experience required to teach in K–2 in primary schools or to be an educator in Early Childhood Education and Care settings. Additional careers include education administrator or policy development officer.

Structure

This course includes professional experience units which will be undertaken concurrently with core studies. All students are required to successfully complete compulsory professional experience placements in schools and an early learning centre as part of designated units throughout the major. Placements are undertaken on a full-time basis for the number of days shown in a continuous block and students need to plan carefully to ensure they are able to meet this commitment. The total number of days of professional experience in the course will satisfy all states' requirements for teacher registration. No more than 25% of professional experience days may be undertaken in schools outside Australia. Therefore, students will only be able to complete one 3 week placement outside Australia and will be required to complete all other placements within Australia. None of the four professional experience placements can be broken or split into shorter periods.
