Cultural Heritage Management

Not offered in 2021The Graduate Certificate in Cultural Heritage Management is an 18-unit program offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

The course may be completed in one semester full-time, or the equivalent part-time.The Graduate Certificate in Cultural Heritage Management articulates with the 36-unit Graduate Diploma in Archaeology and Heritage Management and the 72-unit Master of Archaeology and Heritage Management.

To qualify for the Graduate Certificate in Cultural Heritage Management a student must complete 18 units with a grade of P or NGP or better in each topic, according to the following program of study:

ARCH8017 Cultural Heritage and the Law (4.5 units) ARCH8018 Introduction to Cultural Heritage Management (4.5 units) OR ARCH8019 Heritage Management Planning (4.5 units) ARCH8021 Introduction to Professional Archaeology (4.5 units)

Applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. Under exceptional circumstances and subject to specific conditions, the Dean (Education) may admit others who can show evidence of fitness for candidature.

Upon graduating, students will be able to:

• enter the workforce as skilled and knowledgeable cultural heritage professionals;
• identify and analyse complex issues in cultural heritage management;
• demonstrate high-level knowledge of the nature of cultural heritage management and apply practical skills in the management of cultural heritage in an archaeological or tourism context;
• undertake their work in an ethical way within the fields of cultural heritage management and/or sustainable tourism practice;
• develop tenders and bids and manage cultural heritage or cultural tourism projects; and
• communicate cultural heritage issues appropriately to a range of audiences.

Credit

Unspecified credit to a maximum of 4.5 units may, under certain circumstances, and subject to specific conditions, be granted for candidates who show relevant and extensive experience.
