Entry requirements

Course pre-requisites | Completion of an AQF level 7 bachelor degree in a relevant health discipline, from this or another university (General major); or at least five years’ experience in a health profession; or Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology at an Australian University or hold an equivalent international entry level qualification in one of these professions (Physiotherapy major, Occupational Therapy major or Speech Pathology major). Note: Completion of the Graduate Certificate of Rehabilitation will not enable Australian registration of overseas qualified health professionals. |
Minimum English language proficiency requirements | Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 3a – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy. For students undertaking the Speech Pathology major, an overall IELTS of 7.0 with a minimum writing score of 6.0; speaking score of 8.0; reading and listening score of 7.0 is required. |

Build on your professional expertise to extend your knowledge and skills. This 12 month part-time external course is designed for health professionals who want to enhance their current qualifications and take the next step in their career.
Expand your technical proficiency to design, manage, and evaluate rehabilitation plans for individuals and communities in culturally diverse populations. You will learn to develop solutions for complex problems in health professional practice.
With a focus on tropical, rural, remote and Indigenous communities, you will complete one core subject and select one of four majors (outlined below). The full-time study planner provides more information for students commencing July 2020 and assists in planning your enrolment in the Graduate Certificate of Rehabilitation.
Graduates may be eligible for credit towards a Graduate Diploma of Rehabilitation or a Master of Rehabilitation.
Majors
General
Enhance your expertise in the fields of public health in the workplace, mental health, people living with a disability, and palliative care. Learn how to critically appraise and analyse research publications in the fields of health and rehabilitation, and gain greater insight into the application of assistive technologies.
Occupational Therapy
Extend your knowledge of assistive technologies, rehabilitation strategies for people with a disability, and the delivery of health services within palliative care settings. Students develop assessment and management skills in relation to the human-machine-environment (HME) and build a greater understanding of the research and theory base underpinning a range of health care domains.
Physiotherapy
Work with some of Australia’s most highly regarded physiotherapy, health, and medical practitioners to expand your existing professional skills and experience. You will explore core clinical fields as well as specialty areas of practice such as burns, amputees and women's health. Develop assessment and management skills in relation to the human-machine-environment (HME). Deepen your knowledge of assistive technologies, strategies for people with a disability, and the delivery of health services within palliative care settings.
Speech Pathology
Be equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge and practical skills in the field of speech pathology. Enhance your current professional qualification/s to explore more specialised methods of diagnosing and managing adults and children with complex communication and swallowing disorders. This major will enhance your ability to apply evidence based practices to optimise functional communication and quality of life.
