Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics (pre 2020)

The Graduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics is designed to develop knowledge and skills to understand the process of language learning and development.

It combines theoretical perspectives and empirical studies to provide students with an understanding of the way in which language affects and is affected by the social and cultural environment.

On successful completion of the program students will have:

• Knowledge of language learning and development processes as applied in the study of linguistics
• High-level understanding of applications of this knowledge in TESL/TEFL
• Understanding of the way language affects and is affected by social and cultural environment
• Critical appreciation of the importance of linguistics within local, national and global contexts
• Capacity to respond creatively to cultural sensitivities surrounding language and usage
• Ability to communicate effectively in diverse social and cultural contexts
• High-level levels of presentation and communication skills in applied linguistics
• High levels of critical and strategic thinking skills about linguistic issues and applications
