Course Aims
The aim of this course is to prepare health professionals for education roles in healthcare education contexts.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: demonstrate knowledge for effective and ethical teaching practices and the ability to reflect critically on learning and teaching performance in current contexts where health professional education occurs; apply theoretical perspectives to learning, teaching and assessment, and critically reflect on their application to the education of health professionals; design and apply learning programs and assessment strategies for the diversity of learners in a range of health professional education contexts; demonstrate an understanding of the interrelated nature of learning and teaching for health professionals, universities and other education providers and health services; apply and evaluate a range of face-to-face and online learning and teaching strategies; and source, appraise and apply the best available evidence appropriate to the design and delivery of health professional education.
Graduate Attributes
Knowledge of a Discipline Graduates will possess advanced disciplinary knowledge necessary for the practice of health professional education in a range of healthcare settings. This knowledge is taught, practised and assessed across the course content via written, oral and experiential assessments. Graduates will demonstrate ability to seek out and integrate national and international developments effecting learning and teaching in health care in their practice settings. Communication Skills Graduates will possess a high level of oral, written and online communication skills relevant to learning and teaching practice in healthcare contexts. Strategies for enhancing interpersonal and interprofessional communication with individual and groups of diverse learners and colleagues is taught, practised and assessed across the course. Graduates will recognise the importance of continuing to develop their oral, written and online communication skills and be able to select and use appropriate communication technologies. Problem Solving Graduates will apply logical, critical and creative thinking to solve a range of problems commonly arising in learning and teaching practice in healthcare settings. Information Literacy Graduates will recognise when information is needed, and identify, evaluate and effectively use information as required. Ethical Conduct and Social Responsibility Graduates will understand how to behave ethically and responsibly with diverse learners and colleagues within a range of health professional education contexts. Lifelong Learning Graduates utilise reflective practice strategies to demonstrate ongoing learning in pursuit of personal and professional development for enhancing their own and encouraging the development of lifelong learning of others in healthcare settings. Independence and Collaboration Graduates will work independently and collaboratively to achieve individual and common goals for health professional education in healthcare for diverse learners.
