It takes a particular sort of person to become an Ambulance Paramedic. They put themselves in the front-line of medical care every day making life-changing decisions. Their role is to respond to emergency calls from the public, assisting pre-hospital care. This creative, innovative degree addresses the changing healthcare environment, with an interprofessional health education focus and specialised fieldwork experience. The first year of the degree is undertaken within the Health Sciences interprofessional first year structure. Clinical laboratories will be delivered by the St John Western Australia College of Pre-Hospital Care. To complete the three-year program, you must meet all academic and on-road practical requirements and maintain employment with St John Western Australia as an ambulance officer. You will graduate with a degree and on successful completion of a final transitional period with St John will become a St John Ambulance paramedic. This program is not available to international onshore students studying on student visas. Course Accreditation Status This program is accredited by the Paramedicine Board of Australia. B-ORALHT v.2 Bachelor of Science (Oral Health Therapy)

The oral health therapist is an educator and motivator with an important role in the promotion of oral health for patients and the broader community. As a member of the dental team, the oral health therapist works to provide appropriate dental care for patients. Clinical procedures include some fillings, scaling and cleaning and the management of gum problems, and simple extractions in children, the application of fluoride and other solutions to teeth and gums, local analgesia, dental radiography, taking impressions and a range of orthodontic duties. The curriculum integrates theory and practical studies from a number of areas within health sciences including dental, biomedical and social sciences. Professional Recognition All practising oral health therapists must be registered with the appropriate Dental Board. Registration permits the oral health therapist to work in private practice and the School Dental Service. Career Opportunities Graduates are expected to enjoy good rates of employment, mainly in general and specialist private dental practices and in government school dental clinics. B-NUTR v.2 Bachelor of Science (Nutrition and Food Science)

This course integrates fundamental sciences linked to human nutrition and food science with practical experience to ensure that graduates are uniquely placed to contribute to global health and wellbeing. Students learn how food and nutrition can affect the health and wellbeing of global populations by understanding the science behind foods and the role of nutrition in health. The first half of the degree explores fundamental sciences linked to food and human nutrition. Students will develop knowledge in physiology, biochemistry and biomedical sciences alongside an introduction to health and food behaviours. The second year builds on these foundations while also exploring the effects of dietary nutrients on health and human development across the life cycle, food chemistry and food processing. Students will evaluate the latest scientific literature in the fields of nutrition and food science and relate this to developments in the discipline area. In the last half of the degree students will choose between two streams; nutrition or food science. Professional Recognition Graduates are eligible for membership with the Nutrition Society of Australia. Career Opportunities You will have a variety of interesting and diverse career opportunities in government agencies and private industry, both in Australia and overseas. Government organisations and the food industry produce a high demand for graduates in a range of areas, including public health, nutrition education programs, nutrition advice, research related to food and nutrition in health and disease, and the development of new food products. B-NURSCON v.2 Bachelor of Science (Nursing) Conversion Program for Registered Nurses

The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree available at Curtin Medical School is a five-year undergraduate course. The overall aim of the Curtin Medical School is to graduate doctors who are competent and ready to practice safely and effectively, with care and compassion for patients and their families. Curtin Medical School graduates will have a strong foundation for further medical training and lifelong learning. Throughout the course, students will develop: an understanding of medical and scientific knowledge; communication and clinical skills; skills as a health advocate; an awareness of ethical and professional responsibilities to patients; and strategies to cope with the challenges of medicine. Graduates of the course will be well prepared to begin an internship and pursue further medical training in specialty fields. Professional Recognition Curtin will work with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency to ensure all student registrations are completed with the Medical Board of Australia after enrolment. After graduation and before being admitted to full registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, graduates receive provisional registration. Graduates will enter the workforce as an intern and must serve at least 12 months in an approved hospital. Incorporating critical thinking skills as well as practical work which models industry practice, the Bachelor of Communications prepares students for a range of different positions in media and communications. The Bachelor of Communications provides training for traditional media and communication roles, but also prepares students for emerging job roles that may not yet exist in these fields. Students specialise in one of the following media areas: Web Media, Journalism or Corporate Screen Communication. Laboratory Medicine is divided into six major areas of study: clinical biochemistry, haematology and blood transfusion serology, histopathology, diagnostic cytology, medical microbiology, medical biotechnology and immunology. All disciplines involve the study, examination and analysis of body fluids and tissues by physical, chemical, biochemical and biological methods to provide information essential for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Interior designers, as qualified professionals in Interior Architecture, design quality environments for a diverse range of users and functions. They coordinate the design and construction of building interiors including commercial, workplace, hospitality, medical, gallery, and retail environments. In addition, interior designers may be involved with more transient environments and the associated displays for trade fairs, exhibitions, museums, and public events. Their skills and knowledge are also utilised for adaptive reuse of existing buildings and conservation of significant sites. Interior designers require skills and understanding in all aspects of design, including technical knowledge of interior construction, equipment and building systems. They must also exercise ability in communication and administrative skills. The degree also provides a sound basis for more specialised careers and study in areas such as furniture or set design, education and/or research. Career Opportunities Interior designers find employment as independent interior design consultants, within interior design practices, as facility managers for large corporations, within architectural firms or, in some instances, working for organisations specialising in specific areas such as lighting design or furniture design and in design education.
