Bachelor of Cardiac Physiology

The Bachelor of Cardiac Physiology aims to develop graduates who are able to apply their knowledge of cardiac physiology and basic cardiac ultrasound in a diagnostic setting as a cardiac technologist (cardiac scientist). Cardiac technologists provide technical services for the investigation, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. As part of the cardiology team, cardiac technologists operate a range of specialist equipment to provide data for patient care. To enable this ability in graduates, the course is designed to build a high level of practical skill and data evaluation so graduates can assess patients and evaluate findings in a safe and effective manner. There is an emphasis on high level communication skills so that graduates can interact positively with patients and other health professionals in the clinical environment. Clinical decision making and problem solving ability will be promoted in graduates through the use of simulation based learning techniques and exposure to 'real world' conditions while on clinical practice.This course will provide the opportunity for undergraduate students to undertake a three year full-time degree of study leading to a career in the field of cardiac science. Graduates will not be eligible for ASAR accreditation as 'Echocardiographers' on completion of this course alone.

In the professional communication course, you will attain a unique blend of public relations and journalism theory and practice and also core communication practice skills, such as writing, speech, photography and introductory graphic design.

Science underpins every aspect of human civilisation and will be crucial for solving current and future medical, environmental, industrial and technology problems. In the Bachelor of Science, you will study a range of scientific units that will result in the development of a body of knowledge and set of skills to enable problem-solving and critical thinking. Your first year of study will incorporate skills-focused units that will develop field and laboratory competencies useful for research, and desired by industry and government. You may choose from the Applied Biology or Applied Chemistry majors, both of which will incorporate aspects of environmental studies. In the Applied Chemistry major, you will also explore the emerging fields of nanotechnology, food chemistry and biomaterials centered around an analytical chemistry focus. In the Applied Biology major you will focus on the study of botany and zoology. As a graduate, your employment opportunities may include laboratory work (in food production and industrial settings), research officer (universities, CSIRO, industry and government), technical/sales representative in scientific sectors, environmental field work and plant breeding.

The Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Business enables you to study dual degrees. You can combine studies in accounting with a range of other business disciplines (such as marketing, human resource management and property). The Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Business provides you with a degree that is accredited by CPA Australia, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and meets the associate membership requirements of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA). If you choose LAWS19034 and LAWS19035 as electives, you can also be eligible to apply for registration with the Tax Practitioners Board (after meeting the Board's requirements for practical experience). Graduates are also eligible to join the Association of Taxation and Management Accountants at the member level. You may also be eligible for membership of a number of national and international business-related professional associations, depending on the units and major selected.

Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety

This course is a professional degree based on the study of occupational health and safety. It will present you with the opportunity to undertake a plan and apply your discipline of study to specifically designated career path options. It has been designed to prepare professionals in occupational health and safety with specifically applied knowledge, attitudes, skills and initiatives in the safety science areas of: occupational health; occupational hygiene ergonomics and human factors; accident investigation; and occupational health and safety management. In addition, you have the option to select from a wide array of electives to suit personal needs and interests. Units are designed to drive you through project-based authentic industry-relevant assessment tasks. Throughout this course you are provided opportunities to practically apply your learning, including participation in supervised worksite visits with practical opportunities to apply your learning to given situations. In addition, you will perform 120 hours of work practicum as a capstone project. This presents you with valuable learning and application opportunities before the completion of your studies. The purpose of this course is to produce graduates who are confident and competent health and safety professionals ready to be employed as workplace leaders in health and safety decision making and management. Graduates will be able to facilitate, educate, problem solve and promote health and safety at workplaces and in the community.

The Bachelor of Nursing aims to provide you with the theoretical, practical and research knowledge required to be a competent and effective Registered Nurse. On successful completion of the Bachelor of Nursing, you will be eligible to apply for registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) General with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. To be accepted for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, you are required to disclose: any criminal history, physical and/or psychological impairments and meet specific English language standards. For further clarification of these requirements contact the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia at http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/. Recognition of prior learning: Credit transfer will only be granted where you are able to demonstrate that tertiary-level studies, equivalent in content and depth to the CQUniversity course have been successfully completed. The normal maximum amount of credit you may be granted as a prospective student enrolling into the Bachelor of Nursing course is 72 credit points. Credit can only be granted for units and courses satisfactorily completed in the last 7 years at a recognised educational institution including the Diploma of Nursing. NB: Those applying for credit from a Diploma of Nursing must be registered as a nurse (Division 2) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) before any credit will be offered in a Bachelor of Nursing course. (Unit credit is subject to accreditation and registration requirements). If you are transferring from a pre-registration Bachelor of Nursing course from a recognised Australian educational institution, the maximum amount of credit which may be granted will be 96 credit points of the course.
