SPUC-AFINM v.1 Actuarial Financial Mathematics Specialisation

Specialisations/Minors prepare students to develop broad knowledge about an additional discipline area or same discipline area that complements their study in an award course. Some Specialisations may assist students to progress into postgraduate studies, but have specific entry requirements. This Specialisation develops the student's understanding of the fundamental concepts of financial mathematics and financial economics, and how these concepts are applied in solving cashflow problems, whether certain or uncertain. Due to the high quantitative nature of this specialisation, it is recommended that only students with a minimum ATAR of 92 select this. Furthermore, the core mathematics units are designed for those students who have passed WACE Mathematical Applications or Mathematical Methods or equivalent. Ideally, however, students should have passed Mathematics Specialist ATAR or equivalent, with a mark of 70% or greater. SPPC-OILGS v.2 Energy Futures Specialisation (MBA)

Some Specialisations may assist students to progress into postgraduate studies, but have specific entry requirements. This unique MBA offering is the only one of its kind in Australia and is specifically designed, with industry input, to meet the needs of middle and senior managers working in the oil and gas sector. The specialisation is offered in partnership with the Aberdeen Business School (part of Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Scotland) which is located in another world energy hub. The curriculum combines oil and gas knowledge, and energy management with the core requirements of an MBA to ensure that graduates have a broad coverage of key functional disciplines of business management, as well as specialised knowledge of oil and gas. Faculty members teaching on the program are drawn from the Faculty of Business and Law, the Department of Minerals and Energy Economics, the Centre for Mineral and Energy Economics and from industry. This specialist Master of Business Administration (MBA) specialisation has a curriculum offering students a more detailed understanding and engagement with current and future leadership challenges. Students are constantly required to analyse and re-frame leadership concepts alongside their own leadership styles in order to gain an understanding of organisations and develop their practical skills. Students will also be required to apply, test, and evaluate their analytical, leadership and management skills in the workplace and further their professional and personal development through action learning that is transferrable to real organisations. By exploring the philosophy and ethics of leadership and covering a range of topics including working with teams, working in a global arena, effective and strategic management and organisational behaviour, graduates will leave the course with a more strategic understanding and engagement with leadership.
