In this program you are invited to add to your knowledge of theory and practice in Art in Public Space. You are given the opportunity to contribute to the diversity of practice in this field where you may explore commissioned or uncommissioned work and through this, contribute to the evolving practice in this field.This program is one of the first of its kind in the world and the most comprehensive in course content and structure. It brings together both education and research and encourages active collaboration between art and design practitioners and the community. You will address issues within art in public space that are central to current international cultural debate.You willl gain a broad theoretical and historical understanding of discourses and practices of public art examining current definitions of real and virtual public space and training you to deal with the practical and theoretical problems that arise from such definitions in relation to art.You’ll explore alternative views of how art is presented and received in the urban context and address questions such as:Where are the spaces that enable art to be an active interpretation, rather than decoration, of the city? Who should define policies for public culture? How can art negotiate the new spaces of the contemporary public sphere such as the internet?The content of this program is global in outlook. International opportunities available to you include residencies, field trips, exchanges and study tours. Students have recently taken advantage of such opportunities in China, Italy and Turkey. The capstone experience of the program wikll bring together your comprehensive research and catalogue in a presentation at the Art in Public Space postgraduate conference.As a graduate of this program you will have the skills required to produce public art projects in the professional environment and the expertise to work in the field of criticism and specialised arts management. Graduates from this program are employed as client representatives and public art project, business and site managers.

The Master of Fine Art is a postgraduate professional practice degree offering study in areas such as sculpture, painting, printmaking, drawing, photography, sound, video, ceramics and gold and silversmithing. The program has a pluralistic and interdisciplinary focus and cross-disciplinary dialogue is encouraged to enrich your experience and knowledge.The program offers you a rigorous, supportive and dynamic environment where an investigation of issues pertinent to contemporary art practice sit alongside and inform the production of art. Central to the program is a balance between studio practice and the conceptual and theoretical concerns that underpin the making of art.Through studio based learning and independent research you will develop the skills to locate your artwork within appropriate contemporary, conceptual and theoretical contexts. You will engage with new developments in artistic production and their associated discourses while at the same time building a body of artwork that demonstrates a level of technical and conceptual excellence in contemporary art practice.The program attracts candidates from diverse backgrounds, age groups and nationalities, including leading art practitioners, students graduating directly from undergraduate programs and artists returning to postgraduate study to enliven their practice. You will engage with your peers to develop extended dialogues and provide critical support for each other’s practice.The capstone experience of the course is a major project that culminates in an exhibition of work for assessment, accompanied by a detailed proposal and visual documentation of the work undertaken during the program.Successful completion of the program will give you a pathway to higher degree research and see you prepared to work in national and global contexts as a practising artist.

The Master of Applied Science (Acupuncture) aims to produce graduates who have the ability to practise acupuncture in a safe, competent, ethical and professional manner.The program structure will provide learning experiences for you to acquire and apply sound knowledge of Chinese medicine theories and concepts across various clinical conditions. The program emphasises skills to address real patients in clinical settings.This combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, clinical experience and recognised qualifications prepares you for a career in Acupuncture which may involve independent practice, employment in a multi- discipline health care clinic, teaching and/or research.The program is workshop-based (4 days, 4 times per year face-to-face residential program at RMIT). We also utilise the RMIT online learning management system to support blended learning. You are expected to complete independent study prior to attending the workshops and conduct further clinical observation/supervised clinical practice while off-campus.COTH2115 Supervised Clinical Practice 3 is a one-semester capstone course that involves consultation and treatment of clinical patients by students under the close supervision of a registered clinician. In this clinical context you will integrate and apply knowledge and skills gained from all earlier courses in your program.The clinic experience will develop your capability to formulate diagnoses, prescribe appropriate Chinese herbal medicine treatments and perform herbal dispensing. Your clinical practice will be underpinned by an evidence-based approach. You will gain an insight into the rewards and challenges of independent practice in Chinese medicine and identify strategies for your on-going professional development

The Master or Clinical Psychology is designed to provide the necessary training to prepare graduates for work as clinical psychologists. The program is oriented towards cognitive–behavioural psychology and graduates are trained and expected to work according to the scientist–professional model. A feature of the program is a capstone experience which extends across two courses: BESC1270 Internal Practicum 4 and BESC1276 External Practicum 2. The capstone represents a culmination of the program in terms of you demonstrating evidence of your attainment of program level learning outcomes and RMIT graduate attributes. It marks a transition to professional practice as you take an external clinical practicum (BESC1276) and explore, share and reflect on complex intervention techniques with your peers and practising clinical psychologists in your internal RMIT practicum (BESC1270).This program is offered in face-to-face mode (on campus), with support for flexible learning where appropriate.
