This Bachelor of Science (Applied Sciences) allows you to prepare for a career as a scientist in one of the following major specialisations:Biology Applied Chemistry PhysicsThere are suggested plans for each of these specialisations to ensure that you derive the appropriate depth of understanding for your major field. In addition, you can individualise your program to an extent by taking other science courses offered by the School of Science. This allows you a degree of flexibility to combine a major field of study with a variety of other science courses to help achieve your vocational and academic goals. The common first year ensures that all students have a foundation of academic experience across many fields of science. This breadth of experience will enhance your employability and also enable you to make an informed decision about your intended major and/ or any individualisation of your course of study.This program has two capstone, work integrated learning (WIL) courses: ONPS2335 The Professional Scientist where you work in teams to develop a research proposal and ONPS2186 Science Project, where you engage in an independent science project; this may be in an industry or external lab.Most of the courses in this program are taught face to face at the Melbourne city campus. Some courses are taught at the Bundoora campus.

Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology)

Graduates of this program will be ready to move straight into the burgeoning field of biotechnology, equipped with skills in genetic engineering, industrial microbiology, bioinformatics, and regulartory, ethical and legal issues in biotechnology. Students are able to specialise in microbiology or molecular biology depending on their intended career.The program provides a combination of basic and advanced knowledge and extensive 'hands-on' techniques taught in laboratory practicals. A capstone experience is provided in ONPS2335 Professional Scientist and ONPS2186 Science Project where knowledge and skills come together to develop and implement, sometimes in a group, a research proposal and / or a research project.Graduates will find employment in scientific and research organisations, private industry (manufacturing and consulting) and the teaching profession.This program is taught face to face at the RMIT city campus and in Bundoora.

Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations)

The Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) offers you a degree in the strategic thinking, technical skills, and broader social/global understanding that is the basis of a successful career in the public relations industry. You will combine professionally-oriented skills with theoretical and industry-based knowledge in the various areas of public relations practice.In this program, you will find out why and how organisations use PR, as well as how to gauge the effectiveness of PR, professional protocols and ethics. You will build written and verbal communication skills using a variety of communication media. The program builds a base of professional skills and knowledge in writing techniques, strategy, media, stakeholder relations and research. You will also gain an understanding of social, political, business and communication issues and environments, which will help to identify the goals and needs of employers and clients. Opportunities to build critical and analytical skills provide the foundation for leadership roles in industry.You will experience a variety of interactive learning and teaching approaches, both on campus and in work-integrated learning environments. Through a combination of lectures, seminars, project work, workshops and tutorials, you will engage in individual and team-based projects. This program gives you an opportunity to build workplace experience through internships and other practice-based courses. You will gain insights into industry expectations of professional practice to complement the knowledge and skills gained through formal studies.On completion of the program you will have the knowledge and skills required to meet the demands of an increasingly globalised and technology-driven industry. The program has strong links to other RMIT programs in Vietnam and Singapore. Staff and students also have links with universities in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as Europe and the United States. As a graduate of this program your are eligible for New Practitioner associate membership of the Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA).Public Relations graduates work in many areas including: corporate/internal communications, issues and crisis management, public affairs and lobbying, media relationships and publicity, event management, fund raising and sponsorship. Many public relations graduates also start their own businesses.

Bachelor of Communication (Professional Communication)

In this course you will gain insight into specific national and global media and cultural industries. You will draw upon the skills and experience you have gained throughout the degree in order to begin your transition to a professional career and/or postgraduate study. At the end of the course your portfolio will demonstrate your abilities to operate and innovate within a rapidly changing media environment.Ultimately the program will provide you with a broad knowledge of a wide range of media including traditional and emerging forms. It will also provide skills and knowledge that will help you to determine your specific career directions and to facilitate lifelong learning.Our graduates are fluent with technology and the evolving media environment and are creative thinkers and problem-solvers employed across a wide range of industry sectors. Bachelor of Information Technology (Games and Graphics Programming)

The Bachelor of Information Technology (Games and Graphics Programming) uniquely mirrors industrial games software creation by offering a learning experience that integrates students from art and design within a team-oriented studio environment.The courses provide specialised skills, knowledge and theory for the development of creative vision and expression in digital art, games graphics design and digital graphics programming.A key feature of this degree is that you undertake projects and core courses with students from RMIT’s Games Design program. The cross-discipline mode used in teaching some courses ensures grounding in concepts governing the programming of graphics for the creative industries in general and the electronic games industry in particular.A 24-credit-point capstone cross-disciplinary project (COSC2350 Interactive Digital Media Project A and COSC2351 Interactive Digital Media Project B) in the final (third) year of the program runs over two semesters and provides experience under supervision in the development lifecycle of a substantial piece of digital media software, integrating practice and theory. The cross-disciplinary project teams simulate the production of a digital media artifact (e.g., video game, online virtual world) adhering to a schedule comprising multiple milestones and presentations in each semester.Studies are set in the context of a broader computer science and software engineering framework, applicable to the IT industry in general.Core topics in the field of video games programming includes physics, mathematics, programming techniques, algorithm design, game-specific programming and the technical aspects of game testing. While material in this area could be in part taught under the auspices of a traditional computer science or software engineering curriculum, games present a very specific set of programming challenges, such as optimization of mainstream algorithms (e.g., sorting, path-finding, real-time 3D rendering, etc.) that are better addressed in a specialized degree program.This program is delivered on campus; some courses may be available online.

Give you deep experience with art and design for games, including concept art, level design and gameplay balancing. Give you expansive creative control of complete game projects in order to go beyond technical mastery and build up a creative folio of professional games production. Equip you with a critical language for researching games and embedding research throughout your creative practice.The program has a capstone project with the intention that you will leave with a complete game produced in a team environment creatively driven by you, but advised and curated by academic and professional staff.The program is also designed as a pathway to further learning including related Honours and Masters programs. Game studies and broader games research is embedded throughout the degree and is an important differentiator of the program's graduates.RMIT Bachelor of Design (Games) graduates are distinct in the workplace because they have experienced the most focused and yet most flexible creative games program in Australia. You will develop highly advanced game projects, sometimes and ideally for public consumption, while specialising in your chosen area such as concept art, game narratives or character creation. You will have opportunity to choose and combine courses from Computer Science if you wish to develop programming ability, and University elective courses if you wish to gain creative breadth.As a graduate of the program you will be ready to adapt to a global games employment context, and especially prepared for independent game production for digital and mobile marketplaces. Graduate employment opportunities have included game-specific careers in level design, concept art and illustration, game writing, game engine scripting, 3D modeling and many others.
