For Honours graduates this degree is a pathway into higher degree research programs, such as the Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy. The Honours degree provides specific opportunities for graduates to pursue careers in educational research, education publication writing or editing, education policy analysis, as well as the typical professions for Education graduates including a K-6 (Primary) school teacher, community educator, education consultant, curriculum developer, educational materials developer, curriculum evaluator, and educational administrator.

The degree provides a strong background in the principles underlying the sciences of food technology and human nutrition. This includes the basic sciences, the chemistry and biology of nutrients and the attributes of food, including food commodities and functional foods. The Bachelor of Business is one of the most popular and dynamic degrees offered by the Faculty of Business and Law. The program has a practical orientation, with students learning from case studies of real business situations.The food industry and opportunities for nutrition focused students in the commercial sector are significant. With this in mind,a combined Bachelor of Food Science & Nutrition/Bachelor of Business (BFSHN/BBus) degree allows students to undertake and match business skills with their interest in food and nutritional sciences, a synergy that will maximise graduate employability.

The Bachelor of Development Studies provides opportunities to study the causes and consequences of unequal development and assess policy options for a more equitable and sustainable future. The Bachelor of Business explores all aspects of the contemporary business environment. The combined program builds on interdisciplinary understandings of uneven development and business practice and has a practical orientation, with students learning from case studies of uneven development and real business situations in Australia and internationally.Students will pursue one of 4 interdisciplinary majors in the Bachelor of Development Studies:Students will also pursue a complementary Bachelor of Business major:The Development Studies component of this combined program is offered from the Newcastle - Callaghan campus. The Business component of this combined program is offered from the Newcastle - City location.

This program provides an accredited Honours level 4th year of study in psychology. The content of the program includes a number of advanced topics in psychology together with the completion of an Honours level research thesis.

The need for environmentally sustainable and equitable development is one of the most serious issues facing the contemporary world. Development Studies provides opportunities to study the causes and consequences of unequal development and assess policy options for a more equitable and sustainable future.Social science provides you with the opportunity to analyse, challenge and gain an insight into theories about life cycle, gender, class, race, work, social justice and social organisation. Social science theories are the result of systematic thinking, observations and reflection, and contribute to political and moral debate in society, rather than dictate precise answers to complex social problems.The combined program offers students an interdisciplinary understanding of uneven development in the Bachelor of Development Studies with a grounding in social science theory and practice from the Bachelor of Social Science. Students will be able to pursue 4 interdisciplinary majors in the Bachelor of Development Studies (Cultures and Citizenship, Environmental Sustainability, Globalisation and Economic Development and Urban and Regional Development) with complementary social majors of Community Welfare and Human Services; Criminology; History; HRM and Industrial Relations; Leisure and Tourism; Linguistics; and Psychology.

The Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours)/ Bachelor of Science combined degree program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in mechanical engineering and science (with a major) and complete two awards. In general, this combined degree program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree. At the same time, it recognises the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills. This program offers a sound introduction to the fundamental principles of engineering science and practice as well as systems while also giving students the basic skills and knowledge to contribute to scientific development in many areas of technology, industry, agriculture or the information revolution.Students can choose from either of the three Bachelor of Science majors (Physics or Earth Sciences or Chemistry) currently available in this combined program.

The Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours)/ Bachelor of Science combined program provides students with an opportunity to undertake concurrent study in environmental engineering and science whilst completing two awards. In general, a combined degree program offers greater breadth of learning, enhancing the academic and professional qualities gained in each separate degree. At the same time, it recognises the increasing need for students to graduate with multidisciplinary skills. This degree gives students the basic skills and knowledge to contribute to scientific development in many areas of technology, industry or agriculture whilst also equipping students to apply engineering principles to the problems of human interaction with the environment. It can be a foundation for a career in the vast field of science, or an excellent general education providing skills in problem solving and research particularly in fields where projects are environmentally sensitive.Students should note that the Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Earth Science majors are currently the only Bachelor of Science majors available in this combined program.

Computer systems engineers are experts in software development, electronic hardware design and networking. They design, build and test computer hardware and interface hardware to other equipment and networks. They also write the software with which the end user interacts.The Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering (Honours) program covers the theoretical and practical knowledge required to create a computing system from inception. It enables students to innovate a computer system as part of an existing engineering system such as a controller of industrial plant or equipment. The degree focusses on underlying principles and techniques so that graduates are able to learn and apply new technologies as they emerge in the future.Combined with an Engineering degree, a Science degree opens up a diverse range of employment opportunities in private industry and government organisations. Students could pursue a career in cutting edge areas like nanotechnology, telecommunications, fibre-optics, laser technology, medical physics, organic electronics and photovoltaics. Some of these areas such as next generation telecommunication systems, quantum computing, etc, are closely connected with computer systems engineering. In particular, these are the areas that will constitute many of the future frontiers of technological development. This combined degree opens up these future frontiers of technological breakthroughs to students.
