The Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education) is a pre-service teaching degree that will give you the skills and knowledge to teach health and physical education from foundation through to year 12. This course is accredited through the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board, and is recognised in all states and territories, so once you graduate you’ll be qualified to teach anywhere in Australia.The course has been designed to develop teachers who can inspire people to be healthy for life, with a primary focus on the dimensions of health and wellbeing: physical, mental, emotional, social, environmental and spiritual.Responding to feedback from recent graduates, teachers and school leaders, we also offer several maths units so that graduates will be better prepared if they are asked to take maths classes by future employing schoolsYou will be required to undertake a number of Professional Experience placements totalling 80 days. This will give you the opportunity to apply the theoretical and practical skills that you have learnt in a safe and supportive environment.The Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education) is available on-campus in Launceston.

The Bachelor of Education (Applied Learning) is an in-service and pre-service teaching degree that will develop your skills and knowledge for teaching in the Technologies areas of private or public schools, Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, or with private RTOs or training academies. This course is accredited with the Tasmanian Teachers Registration Board, and is recognised in all states and territories, so once you graduate you’ll be qualified to teach in schools anywhere in Australia.This course is highly suitable for TAFE teachers seeking to further develop their capabilities and advance their career. It is also suitable for experienced professionals in specialised areas such as construction, fabrication, cooking and hospitality who are seeking to become Technology teachers in the school sector.You will be required to undertake a number of Professional Experience placements totalling 80 days, mainly in a school context. This will give you the opportunity to apply the theoretical and practical skills that you have learnt in a safe and supportive environment.The Bachelor of Education (Applied Learning) is available full or part-time online, and provides advanced standing for students with current and relevant qualifications and experience, reducing the length of the course.

Bachelor of Physical Activity Studies

There is an increasing demand for highly trained individuals to lead and work in the sport, physical activity and recreation fields who have skills equal with, but not specific to, teacher education. Over the previous five years through both Federal and State Government initiatives (i.e., Active After Schools) and through providers of activity-based health interventions (i.e., personal trainers, fitness leaders, wilderness leaders) there is an increasing industry demand for highly trained individuals.This non-teaching professional qualification will prepare you for a range of pathways in the sport, physical activity, leisure, personal training, sports management, wilderness and outdoor recreation industry. This non-teaching degree will lead to a professional qualification that will prepare you for a range of pathways in the sport, physical activity, leisure,, personal training, sports management, wilderness and outdoor recreation industries. There is an emphasis on developing life-long skills that will promote healthy lifestyles and physical fitness.Students will have an opportunity to pursue an additional area of interest through a large range of electives and minors on offer, such as personal trainer, fitness leader, business management, human resources or marketing.Please note: This degree does not qualify graduates as Health & Physical Education teachers. To become a Health & Physical Education teacher please consider the Bachelor of Education (HPE).

They are also necessary to foster the development of these critical, fundamental skills in students, providing the building blocks for future learning.From 1 July 2016, all initial teacher education students will need to demonstrate that they have personal literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to the top 30 per cent of the adult population through meeting the benchmark set by the national literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education students (the test) prior to graduation. The test has been determined, under the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership Accreditation of Initial Teacher Education Programs in Australia: Standards and Procedures, to be the means by which a student's personal literacy and numeracy skills are to be assessed..While some higher education providers will require students to undertake the test during their course, other higher education providers may require successful completion of the test as a pre-requisite entry requirement. The Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania requires students to meet the benchmark of the test prior to undertaking their final Professional Experience placement.

Our program integrates professional short courses and training at sea so that you will not only obtain a Bachelor’s degree, but also a Certificate of Competency issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).You will learn about navigation, vessel handling, cargo and passenger transport, vessel management, marine legislation and shipboard safety.
