Graduate Certificate in Research

Central Queensland University

The Graduate Certificate in Research (GCR) will provide you the opportunity to acquire advanced research skills which can be applied in a range of disciplinary contexts. This course is aimed at professionals in a range of industry, government and community settings, and the course content is able to be tailored to suit your current employment context and/or areas of research interest. The qualification can be taken in full or part time mode. Domestic students may study from any campus location or by distance education. International students may study at any campus or in off-shore distance mode. To complete the course, a candidate will compile a series of research portfolio activities during a minimum period of six-months full-time, or the equivalent part-time. New applicants may apply at any time of the year and continuing candidates will be re-enrolled at the beginning of each academic year. The coursework in which GCR candidates enrol are graded. Successful completion of the GCR will provide you with an entry pathway into a masters by research, and possibly a doctoral degree, subject to achieving a minimum 6.0 GPA.

Graduate Diploma of Public Administration

Diploma of Health Care

Central Queensland University

The Diploma of Health Care is an exit point for the Bachelor of Nursing. You may exit with a Diploma of Health Care after successfully completing 48 credit points from the Bachelor of Nursing. As a graduate from the Diploma of Health Care you will not be able to register as a nurse. However, this Diploma will provide recognition of successful completion of health and nursing related study and may be used for entry into other health related study areas.

Associate Degree of Health Care

Central Queensland University

The Associate Degree of Health Care is an exit point for the Bachelor of Nursing. You may exit with an Associate Degree of Heath Care after successfully completing 96 credit points from the Bachelor of Nursing. As a graduate from the Associate Degree of Health Care, you will not be able to register as a nurse. However, this Associate Degree will provide recognition of successful completion of health and nursing related study and may be used for entry into other health related study areas.

Graduate Certificate in Public Health

The Graduate Certificate in Public Health will introduce you to the social-ecological model of health that forms the basis of community-based and community-led public health. This approach reflects contemporary trends in public health and provides the basis of innovative interventions for social change. You will explore the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles of community-based and community-led public health. You will be introduced to complex adaptive systems thinking and how this influences the way we think about public health. You will also have the opportunity to select two electives from other public health units to best meet your needs. Public health is a dynamic and broad discipline and completing the units in this degree will help you develop skills and knowledge in complex adaptive systems thinking, social and environmental determinants of health, participatory and pragmatic approaches to public health issues, including strengths-based as well as disease prevention.

You will explore fundamental concepts associated with these principles, including complex adaptive systems thinking, social and environmental determinants of health, social epidemiology, social justice, partnership development and participatory research. You will have the opportunity to apply these concepts in practical ways in both strengths-based and disease prevention approaches. You will have the opportunity to select two electives from a restricted set of non-public health units in order to complement your public health practice. This will allow you to develop multi- and trans-disciplinary synergies between public health and at least one other field of study.

Graduate Diploma of Positive Psychology

Positive psychology is the scientific study of wellbeing and resilience, with a focus on the conditions that enable individuals and communities to thrive. This rapidly growing field has emerged in response to the realisation that wellbeing is not simply the absence of disease, but is related to multiple factors that enable humans to flourish. In this course, you will learn how to design, deliver, and evaluate positive change interventions and programs suitable for individuals, groups, organisations, and communities. The course is relevant for working with adults, teenagers, and children across a range of local and international contexts, with a focus on enhancing wellbeing, capacities, resilience, and strengths. The curriculum draws on evidence-based theories, models, and best practices from disciplines including positive psychology, coaching psychology, health promotion, positive education, counselling, eco-psychology, and social innovation. The Graduate Diploma has been developed with support from the Wellbeing and Resilience Centre, at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The course is offered on-line, and is available on a full-time or part-time enrolment basis. Please note: a compulsory 5-day Residential School in the course will require attendance, and two units have compulsory after-hours online workshops.

Graduate Diploma of Clinical Nursing

You will also use advanced technical and communication skills to theorise about developments that contribute to professional practice or nursing scholarship. The Graduate Diploma of Clinical Nursing serves as an exit point for Registered Nurses enrolled in the Master of Clinical Nursing pathway. Specialist practice areas include: renal nursing, medical and surgical nursing, intensive care, coronary care, rural and remote nursing, generalist nursing, orthopaedic nursing, oncology and palliative care.

Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations)

The Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) will provide you with the aeronautical experience required for a career as a commercial pilot. You will build your skills as a pilot, starting with short flights constrained within the aerodrome training area and circuit area right through to commercial pilot licence level. You will conduct long-distance flights, visiting multiple aerodromes in regional and outback Australia. You will be required to attend a flight training provider approved by the Head of Course in order to complete this course. You will develop your critical reflection and self-analysis skills as well as analytic, communication and presentation skills. During your study, you will gain the aeronautical experience required to apply for a Recreational Pilot Licence, Private Pilot Licence, Command Instrument Rating, and Commercial Pilot Licence. To enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) you must have successfully completed Term 1 of the first year of the Bachelor of Aviation (Flight Operations) or Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations), passed a Class 1 Aviation Medical, hold an Australian Security Identification Card and have the approval of the Head of Course. In order to gain both the aeronautical knowledge and aeronautical experience, you must study the Graduate Diploma of Aviation and the Bachelor of Aviation or Associate Degree of Aviation concurrently. When you graduate from the Graduate Diploma of Aviation you would normally hold a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and a Command Instrument Rating (CIR).
