Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations)

The Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations) will prepare you for a career as a commercial pilot. You will gain the academic and aeronautical knowledge required to achieve a Commercial Pilot Licence and Command Instrument Rating. In the first year of your study, you will fly solo in the circuit area of the training aerodrome. You will learn about the physics of aviation, flight planning, navigation, performance, loading and operations pertaining to small general aviation aircraft. You will calculate basic flight plans and fuel plans. You will also study meteorological, and navigational factors that affect flying, such as aerodrome forecasts and area forecasts. You will develop knowledge of planing flights on navigational charts and airspace requirements. You will also be introduced to the laws that are relevant to aviation. During your second year, you will learn the aerodynamics, aeronautical knowledge, meteorology, navigation, flight planning, and weight and balance required by a commercial pilot. You will learn about the human factors that impact commercial pilots. You will also cover flight planning and navigation both visually and using instruments. If you wish to become a commercial pilot you will need to complete the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) in addition to the Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations). All practical flight training components after your first solo flight are delivered in the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations). You will not be eligible for enrolment in the Graduate Diploma of Aviation (Flight Operations) until you have successfully completed the first term of the Associate Degree of Aviation (Flight Operations). Graduate Certificate in Creative and Professional Practice (Major)

The Graduate Certificate in Creative and Professional Practice (Major) is aimed primarily at current and future arts management and community arts professionals, creative and performing arts practitioners and others in the creative arts industries, to enable you to extend your capacity to operate professionally and/or artistically in the creative industries in professional and/or creative roles, as well as to progress to further postgraduate study. In order to gain advanced theoretical and technical knowledge, and advanced cognitive, technical and communication skills, you will choose one major area of study from the following areas: Arts Management Community Arts Creative Practice Arts Social Innovation Arts and Heritage Tourism A distinguishing feature of this course is the substantial professional-level creative and/or professional work-related project you will complete, often in association with external arts industry or other relevant partner. This will give you the opportunity to apply your advanced knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, well-developed judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a creative or professional practitioner. You have many options available to you as part of your project, including: arts management; events management; community arts; festival design and delivery, arts curriculum development; curatorial and exhibition projects; fashion; and a wide range of creative practice areas such as creative writing, editing and publishing including digital storytelling; film, television and photography; theatre arts; music composition and performance; and the visual arts including painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation and sound art. Your individual project will be developed in collaboration with the unit teaching staff.

Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry)

The Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry) enables you to develop advanced knowledge and skills in order to work as a Registered Nurse in Australia.  This course will build on your existing cultural, theoretical, practical and research knowledge. This course will include 40 hours of on-campus, clinical learning activities.  Internal students will complete these hours throughout the term while distance students will undertake a 5-day residential school at the end of the term.  You will also complete 240 hours of work-integrated learning after week 12.  On successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing (International Registered Nurse Entry), you will be eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.  Referral by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency is a prerequisite for enrolment into the course.

Diploma of Professional Communication

The eight-unit, 48 credit point, Diploma of Professional Communication will produce graduates who have an introductory knowledge of professional communication, public relations, journalism, human resource management, management, digital media production and marketing. It will provide an exit degree option for the Bachelor of Professional Communication. The advantage of this diploma to students is that it gives an academic reward to those who cannot continue their studies for whatever reason, but who have nonetheless been successful up to the end of their first year (or later, if undertaken part-time). The advantage to the School of Humanities and Communication and to the Higher Education Division is that it will prevent some attrition.

Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound (Specialisation)

The Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound is a professional coursework qualification which enables graduates, or advanced level students, of science or health / medical courses to extend their field of expertise to include the production and interpretation of focused, point of care, diagnostic ultrasound images. The course is divided into clinical specialisations through the use of majors which align with the requirements of clinical practitioners in different fields. The Emergency Focused Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) major is designed for emergency and critical care practitioners. The Basic Soft Tissue Ultrasound Imaging (BSTUI) major would be of interest to any practitioners using ultrasound on soft tissue, particularly muscles. There is also a general major where you can choose any units and create a course to suit your individual needs. Some units include compulsory residential schools on a university campus to facilitate ultrasound skill acquisition and image interpretation training. This course is not a pathway to becoming an accredited medical sonographer or echocardiographer.

The course will draw from a range of models including Seligman’s (2011) PERMA model: Positive emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment, together with other elements of wellbeing such as resilience and optimism, and environmental, physical and ecological considerations. You will examine and evaluate system and behavioural change drivers and tools used to catalyse, motivate, and sustain positive change. Drawing on evidence-based theories, tools, and approaches, you will research, design and develop positive psychology interventions suitable for a range of settings and age groups.
