The Master of Social Work (Qualifying) is aimed at graduates who are working in the community services sector, or who wish to work in that sector, and who want a professionally accredited, advanced qualification. Graduates who can demonstrate at least a year of social science content related to the individual and society, from bachelor degrees such as Social Science, Arts, Community Welfare, Education, Nursing, Policy Studies, Psychology or Sociology are welcome to apply.The curriculum for practice through which students will become social work practitioners throughout their years of their study and beyond has been the basis for the development of social work at UOW.The program will equip graduates with the knowledge, skills and ethical foundations to engage in practice for individual, social and collective wellbeing from a social justice perspective.

A postgraduate Master of Science qualification specialising in Leadership in Gerontology and Rehabilitation or Person Centred Dementia Care provides graduates with a competitive advantage in the job market and provides mid-career clinicians the opportunity to update their knowledge through contemporary studies in the chosen area of specialisation. Leadership and research skills gained in the Master of Science prepares you for career progression into senior clinical, management, teaching, and research roles. Graduates from this course are Clinical Nurse Consultants, aspiring Clinical Nurse Consultants, family carers, Medical Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, volunteers and others in aged and dementia care. The qualification offers two specialisations:Leadership in Gerontology and RehabilitationThe Master of Science (Leadership in Gerontology and Rehabilitation Studies) is designed to provide opportunities for clinicians working with older people or clients with rehabilitation needs. You will be able to critically review the health and well being of older people, review social policy in aged care, and develop advocacy skills to work with users, carers and colleagues in the health, social care and voluntary sectors.Person Centred Dementia CareThe Master of Science (Person Centred Dementia Care) is a clincially focused program that prepared practitioners for advanced professional practice in the specialist field of dementia. Graduates are able to critically review the health and well-being of individuals living with dementia, review social policy in dementia care, and develop advocacy skills to work with users, carers and colleagues in the health, social care and voluntary sectors.

The Master of Research degree comprises research and research training, requiring students to complete 96 credit points of subjects. The first year comprises 48 credit points of research training and coursework while the second year comprises a 48 credit point thesis, which is assessed by two external examiners. Academic Units may award advanced standing for the research training and coursework component and will determine the appropriate entry point.The degree suits students who have just finished their undergraduate degrees but who want the applied skills and industry recognition that comes with the Master of Research. It also suits those returning to study and students interested in gaining extra research training on the way to a PhD. The Master of Research is perfect for students who want training from experts in research methods and who would benefit from completing a substantial research project.The following specialisations are available:Students can specialise in either Arts and Humanities, or Creative Arts, and are able to focus their research in the following areas:

Academic Units may award advanced standing for the research training and coursework component and will determine the appropriate entry point.Students can apply for entry at any time with both beginning and mid-year intakes, and the degree can be undertaken full or part-time.The following research areas are available in the Humanities and the Arts: English, History, Politics, Sociology, Indigenous Studies, Language and Linguistics, International Studies, Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Science and Technology Studies.The degree suits students who have just finished their undergraduate degrees but who want the applied skills and industry recognition that comes with the Master of Research.
