The Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) provides advanced education in pain management for graduates in medicine, dentistry, nursing, physiotherapy, psychology and other disciplines involved in pain management. This course is offered in the form of online distance education mode and you may complete the course full-time or part-time.This course is offered through our interactive online learning environment, giving you the flexibility to tailor your study schedule around your lifestyle.All stream specific units are online. You may find however; a couple of electives do have a face-to-face component. These can be avoided depending on your individual preferences. In 2014 the program was endorsed by the International Association for the Study of Pain, the leading international scientific body representing and supporting about 8000 pain scientists and clinicians around the world. Currently, completely of the Master of Science in Medicine (Pain Management) is the only recognised academic pathway to becoming a titled Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) Pain Physiotherapist. This is due to the way the course is uniquely mapped against the IASP interprofessioanl curriculum for the study of pain.The course is also recognised for Continuing Medical Education/Maintenance of Professional Standards Program points by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.Please ensure your CV includes details of any relevant work or other experience. Please note that you cannot retain a CSP if you upgrade or downgrade to another course after enrolment. Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy)

The Master of Science in Medicine (Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy) teaches an approach that helps people with personality or anxiety disorders, dysthymia, chronic depression, somatisation and other conditions in which trauma is a contributing factor.The program is designed to train clinicians to treat people for whom chronic, complex trauma has played a contributing role in the development of psychological disorders or stress, or where conventional psychotherapies have failed. It uses an evidence-based approach to psychodynamic psychotherapy and offers supervised training across the different lengths of treatment, from acute to brief and longer term, suitable for public and private settings.This course is suitable for clinicians with mental health experience, such as social workers, psychologists, nurses, psychotherapists, counsellors and school counsellors and may be of interest to others such as speech pathologists and dentists. The program is delivered in close liaison with the Western Sydney Local Health District and practising clinicians to ensure that the skills taught are practical and relevant to real-world psychotherapy practice settings. Clinical content includes short and longer-term interventions and the integration of psychotherapy with other treatment modalities.A limited number of Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) are available for this course for Semester 1, 2020. To be considered for a CSP you must apply for entry to the course by February 2020 and places will be allocated based on merit.

If you choose a public health or a generalist 'no speciality' pathway all units of study will be completely online.
