MJRU-IDCHL v.1 Indigenous Community Health Major (AssocD)

This major provides Indigenous students with the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the policy, planning, health promotion and project management areas of the Indigenous health industry. It aims to empower and strengthen the well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through a holistic, multidisciplinary approach that encompasses contemporary Indigenous healing practices, Indigenous self-determination in health, the application of Indigenous knowledge, primary health care, health promotion concepts and practices. This major will enable Indigenous primary health care practitioners to take leadership roles in the formulation and implementation of programs, in particular, through the development and application of Aboriginal Terms of Reference.

The Humanities and Social Sciences (Politics and Law) Education Major prepares students with content and pedagogical knowledge to teach in the Politics and Law subject area in Year 11 and 12 as well as across Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum area from Years 7 to 12. Students will also select a second teaching area specialisation from: a minor teaching area, or broadening study in the the Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum area, or further studies in an education specialisation area. The major will help you prepare for working as a manager in small businesses, as well as in medium and larger local and multinational enterprises. It will also prepare you for work in non-profit organisations and the public sector.

This major enables students to examine the development of social, political, cultural and economic forces, noting how such developments shape society over time. Particular attention is paid to Australia, Asia and other selected overseas societies, ideas and research methods. More generally, students are encouraged to examine how history shapes the way they think, believe, and act. Students studying History as their primary major will study their first year with the STRU-BAMCC Media, Culture and Creative Arts First Year Stream. Major Overview Note Students choosing this major within the Bachelor of Arts degree will also choose another major or an elective stream. Choosing a second major allows students to study in an additional discipline area. Choosing an elective stream allows students to undertake further study in the discipline of their first major or choose from a variety of units from around the University.

Students select their pathway of study in graphic design within the Graphic Design major. This programme provides students with a creatively expansive experience to express their ingenuity, culture, intellectual abilities and skills through creating relevant graphic design solutions. Project based activities develop design processes that embed professional standards with individual thoughts, concepts and ideals. Components of the third year programme are self-directed and lead to a portfolio, exhibition and publication of work. This design major is directed toward employment outcomes as a designer or practitioner in the creative industries sectors. Higher study directions include areas of specialisation in design, research and/or education. Geophysics is an area of increasing importance, particularly in Australia. Graduates who acquire experience in this field may have many opportunities open to them both in Australia and Overseas. Geophysicists have always been required in the search for minerals and energy sources by developed countries. This demand is increasing. In addition, there is a fast growing demand form developing nations, which has already created a shortage in professionals. The importance of Geophysics relative to other exploration techniques will increase steadily as oil and mineral deposits are sought at greater depths below the Earth's surface.

Climate change and environmental stress more generally pose great challenges to humanity in every corner of the globe. Making human lives sustainable in such conditions involves meeting challenges which extend from securing essential food and energy supplies to developing viable settlements and social, cultural and economic institutions, as well as finding effective systems of local, national and international governance. The Geography Major explores the varied dimensions of social, economic and political change in an environmentally stressed world. It examines the threats and opportunities to developing and maintaining local communities within the context of regional, national and international processes. Students studying Geography as their primary major will study their first year with the STRU-BAGEO Geography First Year Stream.
