EN-INDPSE v.2 Indigenous Pre-Science and Engineering Enabling Course

The Indigenous Pre-Science and Engineering Enabling Course is provided to support Indigenous Australian students in developing fundamental and significant knowledge and practices in Science and Engineering, with an introduction to Science (STEM) subject areas as well developing study skills, academic writing, communication and cross-cultural leadership. Successful completion of this course with an ATAR Equivalence entry score and career pathway counselling, will provide a strong foundation for students to articulate into a Multidisciplinary Science or other nominated undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. This course will enable students to prepare for tertiary studies in undergraduate courses and build on existing knowledge and experiences that enhance life long learning. EN-INDPBE v.2 Indigenous Pre-Business and Law Enabling Course

This one year Indigenous Pre-Business and Law Enabling Course introduces Indigenous Australian students to fundamental and significant knowledge and practices in business, commerce, and law. This course will enable students to prepare for tertiary studies in undergraduate courses, and build on existing knowledge and experiences that enhance life long learning. Upon successful completion of first semester students will then select the Business or Law pathway. Students who have successfully completed the Pre-Law pathway are eligible to apply for direct entry into the Bachelor of Laws (B-LAWS) or the Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Commerce Double Degree (BB-LAWCOM). Students who have successfully completed the Pre-Business pathway are eligible to apply for direct entry into the Bachelor of Commerce (B-COMRCE)/Bachelor of Business Administration (B-BUSADM) or other Curtin equivalent award degrees. The Indigenous Pre-Business and Law Enabling course will provide a pathway into undergraduate business, law or equivalent courses at Curtin University which will unlock a range of career opportunities for Indigenous students. EN-INDGTE v.1 Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course

The Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course is a six month course designed to fast-track Indigenous students with a secondary education and/or relevant TAFE qualification into mainstream University degree programs. The course provides the necessary academic knowledge and skills in a culturally appropriate environment; and promotes a strong sense of Indigenous identity which values each student’s cultural background. EN-GEHLTH v.1 Health Sciences Graduate Entry Foundation Course

AD-MINE v.1 Associate Degree in Mining

Associate Degrees prepare students to develop broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional/highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 6 qualifications. The Associate Degree will provide the freedom of choice to start up mining career or be a stepping-stone to further study. This degree prepares students for entry to the Bachelor of Science (Mining) and subsequently Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) (Honours). Mining specialists work with mining engineers in conducting safe and efficient mine production operations. Students with sufficient background in mathematics, sciences and technologies along with strong communication skills pursue a successful career as mining specialists. These courses provide a comprehensive knowledge in fundamental mathematics and physics, applied mechanics, material science, engineering design, geology, geomechanics, construction, mining technology, computing and environmental science, particularly those aspects concerned with conservation of the environment, health and safety, ventilation, pollution and management of people and resources. Professional Recognition The Associate Degree in Mining is recognised by the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and graduates are eligible to apply for Associate Grade membership of Australiasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM). AD-INDCHL v.3 Associate Degree in Indigenous Professional Practices

Associate Degrees prepare students to develop broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional/highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 6 qualifications. This course provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to further Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination, self-management and well-being. Students undertake a common first year before selecting a major in Indigenous Community Management and Development, Indigenous Community Health or Indigenous Mental Health. AD-FINART v.1 Associate Degree in Fine Art

AD-AGRIB v.2 Associate Degree in Agribusiness

Associate Degrees prepare students to develop broad knowledge and skills for paraprofessional/highly skilled work and further learning corresponding to AQF level 6 qualifications. This two-year associate degree is a combination of commerce, agricultural science and agribusiness units that equips students for employment in the agribusiness management sector and for further study at Bachelor level. Students develop an understanding of the breadth of the modern agribusiness sector through units in agricultural production systems farm business management, food and agribusiness marketing and farm accounting and finance. Students are encouraged to work within the agricultural industry for a minimum of 70 hours during semester breaks to advance their practical skills and to better understand how they can apply their theoretical knowledge in the modern agribusiness workplace. The learning activities in the course will be based primarily at the Muresk Institute which allows for engaging and practical on-farm experiences. Students successfully completing the associate degree may qualify for entry into the Curtin’s Bachelor of Agribusiness (and many other courses). The structure of this course will deliver content with relevance across the agri-food industries. Themes that underpin the course structure include: • A strong foundation in principles of business (accounting, finance, economics, marketing) within an agricultural context; • An understanding of management and risk in agribusiness production systems; • In-depth knowledge of agricultural production systems: biological, economic, social and environmental considerations for cropping and livestock production in Australian agriculture; • Practical application of new and emerging technologies in agriculture (e.g., remote sensing, GIS, data management); • Options for ag-related certification to be obtained within some units; and, • Requirement for industry experience.
