Today's communications and media environment is global, internationalised and requires sound leaders who understand the implications of digital, traditional and intercultural media, the methods of communicating strategically to reach audiences, communications project management and the requirements for managing an organisation's image and messages. Through practical and analytical engagement, students gain both skills and understanding relevant to a broad range of communications and media roles, capabilities in developing effective communication strategies that operate across digital and traditional formats, and skills in managing communications projects.

It aims to meet the training needs of all those whose lives intersect with heritage be this in context of government, the business sector, NGOs, museums, national or provincial parks. Students study both tangible and intangible heritage including natural, cultural and Indigenous heritage with a choice to specialise in either Indigenous Australian or international heritage. Students learn to understand heritage issues and to work with industries and governments to record, manage, protect and present heritage objects, places and traditions in partnership with communities.

Fieldwork also relies on the researcher's ability to clearly understand their research design and methods in order to effectively and ethically access, collect and manage data in the field.This course teaches a range of applied research methodologies and field skills and techniques to prepare students for undertaking detailed fieldwork research with vulnerable research participants and/or for extended periods overseas or in less secure and/or complex and hostile environments.Students develop theoretically grounded, practical knowledge of what is required to undertake applied research in complex and hostile places. This course provides a rigorous framework through which students can develop an integrated research plan, ethics application and fieldwork risk management plan to support cutting edge postgraduate research that is required for postgraduate research theses.

This course introduces students to key concepts in social research methods and offers them the opportunity to develop their skills through application. It provides students with an understanding of the types of research techniques used in the social sciences. It also covers the range of methodological approaches and ethical considerations.
